Andre Miller regrets signing with Portland

Quote:
If I was told right out when I had my meetings that I would be a backup, then I wouldn’t have come here,” Miller told Yahoo! Sports this week

McMillan has said he told Miller during their summer meeting in Las Vegas that he very well might make him a reserve. Miller doesn’t remember the meeting quite the same way. What is clear is that Miller wasn’t Portland’s first choice on the free-agent market. The Blazers initially thought they had a deal with forward Hedo Turkoglu(notes) only to see Turkoglu leave for Toronto. They then signed forward Paul Millsap(notes) to an offer sheet the Utah Jazz matched.
Yikes, this might get fugly.

This is one case where a player going out into the media isnt horrible.

When you get signed and told youre going to be a starter longterm and then put him on the bench without any lead up to why its happening it isnt right. I dont know what the hell McMillan is thinking but his little idea is going to blow up in his face. If he didnt like the idea of Miller being their starting PG they SHOULD HAVE NEVER SIGNED HIM.

I agree with Miller on this one. Portland is pulling some bullshit. Scarface's famous saying really holds true to this situation.

edit:

then i just found this on the POR board

Quote:
“I like the players. I like the coaches. I like the management. I’m here to win. However they’re going to use me, I have to deal with that. And, like I said, whatever the coaches say, I have to do. But that’s not going to change my work habits. I’m a team player. It was nothing bad as far as what I said about starting. That’s just a goal. Like I say, if the coach goes in a different direction then I have to live with that and that’s my job to continue to come out and support my players.”
Media twisted it a bit. But its obvious he isnt happy either way. Its not the best thing to go out into the media with this, but hes totally in the right IMO.

Unless Blake dominates during the preseason over Miller there is no way Andre should be coming off the bench. Portland seems to have a issue when dealing with their players [Roy/Aldridge contract negotiations etc.] If this type of treatment continues Portland may have a hard time aquiring players in the future.

you know it!

seriously, though. blake is the perfect point guard to play beside roy. miller might be the better point guard, but blake can play off the ball just as effectively on it and shoot at a very nice clip.

i never understood the signing of miller. i just think they were spending for the sake of adding someone to their roster.

bingo.
after losing out on hedo and milsap, they pretty much had to sign anyone, and miller was that guy.

Word they just signed Miller for the fuck of it. He shouldn't be coming off the bench though, we'll see what happens.

Yep - it's not about Miller v Blake at all, just a bad idea and bad fit from the start.

Why isn't Miller going to start. This makes no sense. They got a good PG for 10 mil and now he's not going to start

This is a bad move by McMillan. Miller is a proven starter and he shouldn't have to come off the bench. He is a top 10 PG in the league.
