Anderson Varejao developed a blood clot in his lung after leg surgery and needed to be hospitalized. Should recover, but now out for year

Wow that's some crappy luck.

This is the third straight season Varejao has missed extended time with injuries. He sat out 41 games last season with a broken wrist and was sidelined for 51 games in the previous season after tearing a tendon in his ankle while running after practice.

Honestly, whatever team he's on next year needs to limit his minutes to 26-30 mpg to try to avoid the seemingly inevitable mid season injury. The 3 seasons he actually stayed healthy he was at 23, 28, and 29 mpg. Although he played great this year in 36 mpg, the likelyhood he'd last all year playing the way he does was very low.

tough to consider him injury prone when none of those injuries are even remotely related

you could argue his style of play may be conducive to injury but i think he's had some bad luck too

Feel for the guy.... should have been an all-star this year and probably would have if he hadn't have gotten hurt.

Dude is pretty fragile. He has never played a 82 game season. Though has come very close in three seasons. I think he will make come back, though he may bench guy for the rest of his career.

I dont think he's fragile. He just plays the game as hard as he can. he takes charges, dives for balls, sacrifices his body. that takes a toll on you after 10 years. he's probably played hurt a lot of the time. ask grant hill and alvin williams how that went for them? injuries are a fact of life when you play the way he does. it's just a question of severity.

I used to hate his game. I knicknamed him Flop-a-jao. Always said LeBron left Cleveland because Varejao smells funny. But... he played better last year and especially this year. Way more aggressive and added more creative passing. He just needed to get more NBA in his game and less Euroflop.

How can you not think hes fragile when hes only had 3 seasons in the NBA where he almost played the full season? Hes fragile because of his style of play. Much like Gerald Wallace, if you're crashing the glass and going after every loose ball EVERY possession, the odds are against you where you're either going to land on someones foot, land hard on your backside because you're off balance, land awkwardly, or get hit in the wrong spot because so many other bodies are going after the ball in your area. His situation is brought on by his style of play, not by bad luck. Its great that he plays hard to the fullest extent of the phase, but sometimes you've got to be smarter and avoid throwing your body in the fray when there's a low percentage shot at making the play.

This is why you sell high, crushing blow for the cavs. We need to trade Caldy before this happens to him too.

Same goes for Bargnani. Not selling high but before he breaks something else.

I agree but I want him to get at least some games under his belt so his stock goes up a little at least.
