Amare will opt out if he doesn't re-sign before July 1st

No surprises here.

Quote:
GILBERT, Ariz. (AP) -- Amare Stoudemire will opt out of the final year of his contract if he doesn't re-sign with the Phoenix Suns before the deadline at the end of this month.

Stoudemire, speaking at his basketball camp Tuesday, said he deserves a maximum contract and would like it to be with Phoenix, where he has played since he was drafted out of high school in 2002. The All-Star power forward said there was "no chance" he would exercise the final year of his contract with the Suns, which would pay him about $17 million.

Phoenix could give him more than any other team -- a six-year deal worth about $127 million.

"We've got the fans excited about basketball again," Stoudemire said. "So what I don't want is for me to have to leave and the fans are now not quite as excited about the game here. I want to keep the hype, want to keep the fans involved, want to keep everybody ecstatic about the Phoenix Suns."

Stoudemire, who helped the Suns reach the Western Conference finals, can become a free agent on July 1 but indicated he would like to have things settled with the Suns before then.

Doesn't matter. You re-sign and stay as long as you can. He can always try to force a trade in a couple years if anything.

Dragic ain't half bad too.... so maybe PHX's PG situation will be OK after Nash leaves.

I don't buy his BS about the fans in Phoenix. He's using them to get Phoenix to overpay him

Stoudamire is a fucking idiot.

Shawn Marion 2.0

I can't fucking wait till some poor team like NJ or Chicago signs a guy like this MAX and he turns into he biggest flop around.

These ego maniacal bastards hav all lost grip on reality, and their little parasite agents are there for the ride chatting in their ear telling them how amazing they are.

Very sad.

Of course it matters what Nash's plans are. He's a third tier player with Nash, what will he be without him? Amare is a very good iso bigman don't get me wrong, but you can't make up for the 4-5 meatballs he gets from Nash on a nightly basis not to mention the spacing Nash creates.

Amare doesn't seem like the sharpest tool in the shed but I'm sure he's smart enough to know where his bread is buttered. If Nash is only there short-term it's in Amare's best interests to sign on with another team with a creator so he doesn't have to go through the process of demanding a trade or playing with frankly a non-playoff team after Nash leaves.

he'd be kemp without payton if he wasn't playing with nash.

i really hope we avoid all free agents this year. gimme players with short contracts so we'll be well prepared for the new CBA when it knocks the rest of the league over. i really hope BC foresees this and decides not to handicap us with another turk-like contract just so we can get some return on bosh.

I wouldn't go that far. He's still a top five PF in the league whether he's with Nash or not. My point is that in signing him to a max contract, even with Nash, you're already grossly overpaying him. You take away Nash and that contract is even more of an albatross than it was off the top.

Ya ya, so was Marion.

Trust me, IF he's that, and only if because you could argue he isn't, he stil lisn't no where near max money. saying that means there are 25 MAX CONTRACT players in the NBA.

Theres really only about 5 if you're lucky.

So really, Amare is just working the system to make money, and to be honest, these guys dont get that that type of thinking is going to ruin a good thing they have going..... here comes the CBA talks now you dumb cunts, keep ramming the costs up, see what happens, ask your NHL friends how that went.....

Listen Amare is no CB4 i've had alot of debates with people saying Amare is better than bosh.....If it wasn't for Nash.... Amare's numbers would be substantially down....his rebounding skills you can't takre away from him but...he is no bosh.. so sayin just because cb gets max he should get max isn't right.Bosh Brings it every night by himself.... he can create his own shot...hes a great rebounder...defender...the whole package.....Amare wouldn't be that valuable without steve nash.....Steve nash's career was mainly making his team mates better.....Amare one of them.......if hes got no nash...he is nowhere near bosh! and iam not just sayin because iam a raptor fan....

Amare is one of the best in his position as far as the mid-range shooting is concerned and he is better than Bosh in offence. That said he is soft on the defensive side and needs someone to help him around the rim. He is not worth the max but he thinks someone's willing to pay him that. Ever heard of a guy called Rashard Lewis?
