Almost as bad as the Lewis signing

Yikes.

Kirby 07-29-2008 09:37 PM

He's not worth it..Go for Iguodala or something..Stupid Bulls.

dfunkie1 07-29-2008 09:41 PM

that's just over 11 a season.....how do you compare?

i'd say thats close to market value being josh howard is making about a million less.

Torontosaurus 07-29-2008 09:43 PM

He underperformed last year
- $70 mill over 6 years, thats more than 11 million a year

Wowza :stars:

deng is just as good as iggy, if not better. he had a injury plagued season last year playing with a fucked up case of stephen jackson infliction.

Ball Don't Lie 07-29-2008 10:10 PM

I should have rephrased but when I saw it it just jumped out at me where they went from offering like 50 mil to 70 just because of his threats and such even after such a mediocre year. I like Deng but he isnt worth near max money. Neither is Lewis obviously but Lewis RIGHT NOW provides more of the intangibles especially offensively, and even defensively he wasnt all that bad at the PF spot this year in SVG's system.

Then again, most of the guys are severely overpaid, so if Deng does bounce back this wont look all that bad. Its just the jump in money that got me anyway.

There could have been worse, it could be Ben Gordon. :D

So lemme get this straight. Luol Deng had 19 ppg / 7.1 rebs with a salary of $3 million last year.

This year he grabs 17 ppg / 6.3 rebs and they offer him a contract that's $9 million more than his previous one??

Stupid Bulls :frustrated:

Not really Major, because the entire franchise was a disaster and disappointment last season. I blame that on Deng's statistical downfall. He's certainly better than some of other names mentioned in this thread. I'd take him anyday over someone like Iggy or Josh Howard. ;)

Major 07-30-2008 10:20 AM

Yeah, good point, they did slump this season.

Don't get me wrong, I think Deng is an excellent player, I would love to see him in a Raps uniform anyday. It's just crazy how players could jump from $3 million to $12 million in just one year. But Chicago will be good this year. They just barely missed the playoffs, and with the addition of Rose now, they'll most likely be grabbing a spot this year

There's nothing crazy about it.

When players are drafted in the first round, they are signed to a guaranteed rookie deal. The deal's monetary amount is predetermined by their draft position, and if I'm not mistaken, the deals are 3 years with a 4th year option.

Deng just finished his 4th year, meaning his $3 mil was a rookie contract, and only reflected his value based on his draft position.

This contract reflects his value based on his performance thus far in his NBA career as well as the current market for a player of his abilities.

Any top flight player will have a massive salary increase from his rookie deal to his next one.

And this is nowhere near as bad as the Lewis signing. Rashards is 6 years, 110 million. Chicago got a younger player who doesn't score or shoot as well, but is far more multi-dimensional than Lewis for 40 million less. About 7 million less per year.

Kirby 07-30-2008 12:57 PM

OH! It's now a 6 year 80M deal.

The MVP of West Hollywood 07-30-2008 02:07 PM

Well, 71 mil + incentives to get to 80

Gordon is apparantley saying he wants as much as Deng now... which is ******ed. Bulls FO is probably mad pissed right now. :haha:
