All in one off season NBA rumors, transactions thread 2014 edition

We had one of these last summer and I figured that we may as well do it again.

Sources: With Stan Van Gundy in, Greg Monroe out in Detroit - NBA - Sporting News

Quote:

The fact that Van Gundy opted for the Pistons over the other team in pursuit of him—the Warriors—offers some insight, one league general manager told Sporting News.

“There are two things that made that job better for Stan,” the GM said. “One is the fact that he gets to make personnel decisions, that is a big deal of course. But the other is Andre Drummond. If you want to build your team around a young player, Drummond is the guy.

"You’re not going to build around both him and Monroe, they had too much trouble making that work. You pick Drummond and move on from Monroe.”

Ideally, Van Gundy’s offense will be constructed like the one he had in Orlando, which was innovative at the time—he wants to spread the floor with shooters and create space for a power big man down low. It will be Drummond in Detroit, just as it had been Dwight Howard with the Magic.

The main question now is just how Van Gundy chooses to rid the roster of Monroe, who was the No. 7 pick in the 2010 draft. As a restricted free agent, Monroe is free to sign with whomever he likes, but the Pistons have the right to match.

Monroe’s agent, David Falk, will hit the market seeking a max deal for Monroe, and he could well get it—Monroe is a skilled 23-year-old big man who has averaged 14.0 points and 9.0 rebounds, and those are not easy to find.

14 an 9 with below average defense is not worth max , I don't care how skilled or young you are. This is ridiculous.. is JV going to ask max too? :dead:

Yeah I really dislike his defense. Let someone else pay him the max as long as it isnt us.

Phil Jackson Reportedly Told Raymond Felton to Expect a Trade | Bleacher Report

Hopefully Felton will be out of the league come the start of next season.

Mark my words, Monroe is going to PHX on draft day. Monroe is a center, not a PF, and PHX is looking to trade at least 2 of their 1sts for a young player like Monroe. It only makes sense.

Monroe isn't a max player, but he is a 10-12 million dollar per year player. You don't find supremely talented bigs like him at that that age who are available. If the right coach gets their hands on him, why can't he be like Big Al from this season?

Monroe ain't worth 2 first rounders lol. I don't think the suns up tempo play style will be beneficial for him. Then again, they look like they want to compete now so they will probably make a splash this off season

I wasn't referring to their own pick, but if they packaged the WAS/IND 1sts with a player, how is that not fair value for a player like Monroe? Multi talented young bigs aren't worth two non lotto 1sts?

I expect PHX to be in the running for any and every skilled big man who may be available this offseason(Love, Randolph, Monroe, Bosh etc)

DEN would also be an ideal suitor for Monroe, but they still have Mcgee on the books for 12 million, and Mozgov at a reasonable salary

Why give away picks? He is RFA, all they have to do is offer more than Pistons.
Anyway, I really like Monroe, but I'd hate to be a GM giving him a contract. He is almost certainly going to get overpaid. I can see him in a Boozer situation, getting 15ish mil

The problem with the Suns offering more money than the Pistons is the Pistons still have the right to match any contract offer for Monroe. They could just match the offer and he stays. They probably don't want to handcuff themselves with a huge contract, but it also serves no purpose for Phoenix to just throw a max deal at Monroe because they could end up fucking themselves over.

While I think Monroe is better skilled than Hibbert and doesn't seem like the type to cry over everything, Phoenix doesn't want to get stuck in a situation with Monroe the way the Pacers are with Hibbert - paying a guy max money and not producing at all.

Don't think Pistons are going to match anything more than 13mil, they said many times that they are building around Drummond. It would be really dumb to match anything more than that IMO.
I expect him to be paid 13-15 mil, and I could see Suns paying that much

Guys, either everyone has forgotten player's values, or you guys have gone off your rocker. If Greg Monroe is worth 10-13 million dollars per year or more, what do you think Lowry will get? The max? Because if Monroe is worth 15/per, Lowry is going for Kobe's contract.

They're both in the same area....10-12mil/yr. Though there is far more demand for Centers than PG's right now, so I say he gets more $$ than KL.

Agreed. The only issue though between Lowry and Monroe is position difference. Big men with any decent amount of skill have always been paid extremely well, hell even some horrible big men have been paid extremely well.

Ball Don't Lie 05-19-2014 02:40 AM

Monroe is a 23 year old big man who has put up near 16+10 production, of course he's going to get paid big bucks.

Just because he's not a defensive stalwart means little in terms of him getting paid. Young bigmen capable of his production level don't become available in free agency too often. Plus he was in Detroit, who's to say he doesn't at least look average with a new team?

He's a really good player, who's underated by most fan bases.

This thread has become the All In One Moose thread

He's a waaaaanted man. A center with a back to the basket game. Very rare these days.
