The Kings tried to sweet talk Rudy Gay into opting out and signing a longer-term deal. He didn't. Oh well.
Quote:
Sacramento Kings forward Rudy Gay will exercise his $19.3 million contract option for the 2014-15 season, but has tabled extension talks until later this summer, league sources told Yahoo Sports.

The re-signing of Gay is a top priority for the Kings. Team management and Gay's agent, Alex Saratsis of Octagon, are expected to re-engage discussions in the near future, sources said.

After July 1, the Kings and Gay will be able to negotiate a full four-year contract extension. Gay has been in constant contact with Kings management, and has been impressed with new owner Vivek Ranadive's commitment to constructing a contender, sources said.

Carmelo Anthony is researching the city of Chicago as he approaches his anticipated free agency.

Anthony has spoken to at least one high-profile person who lives in Chicago about what it is like to live in the city.

The Bulls have also been doing their due diligence on Anthony in recent days, with Tom Thibodeau reaching out some of his former coaches.

Anthony is also expected to consider the Houston Rockets and Dallas Mavericks, while the Miami Heat are another option.

Anthony can sign a maximum contract worth $129 million over five years with the Knicks. He can ink a maximum deal worth $96 million over four years with another team.

I still find it funny how Melo basically forced Denver into trading him to NY and he doesn't even want to stay there and probably hasn't for a while. What a tool.

Don't think that's enough.
Celtics have the best chance as they offered the 6th/17th plus future 1st and Kelly or sully... I would take that in. A heartbeat for a player desperate to leave

Not only that but no matter where he signs - including NY if he wants other top tier talent to play with - it'll look like he'll have to take a pay reduction

Channing Frye has declined his $6.8 million player option for the 14-15 season with the Phoenix Suns to become a free agent.

The Suns have a desire to re-sign Frye depending on what happens in the draft and possible trades.

Frye missed the entire 12-13 season after being diagnosed with an enlarged heart, but played in all 82 games while shooting 37 percent on three-pointers last season.

Frye is one of the NBA's better stretch-4's.

What the heck would the Cavs do with another PF? A third team would need to get involved to make any deal work.

You know, if Iman is on the table for a pick and knowing OKC has tried to get Chandler and Iman in the past, I wonder if a Perkins/Thabeet/21/29 for Chandler/Iman would be of interest to either team. OKC can really use both (would suddenly be really tough on D plus increasing their depth on the bench) and the Knicks could get a couple of nice players to add in this draft - like Ennis or Clarkson with the 21st and then Capela or McGary with the 29th. Would also preserve their 2015 cap space and most likely allow them to get a high pick in next years draft. Would really kick off a rebuild in a hurry over there - esp if they s&t Melo to Chicago for Taj, non guaranteed contracts and both their picks this year.

Channing Frye should go to the Heat. They need that stretch 4 to counter that beatdown Boris Diaw put on Miami.

A lot of teams will be going after Frye, and with his prior heart condition, it was a good move opting out and trying to get a long term deal. He'd be a great fit in Miami since he's capable of being mobile on defending pick and rolls and being able to move his feet, plus he's a very good 3 point shooter and knows his role.

I wouldn't be surprised if he ended up on LAC, seeing as he'd be the perfect back up big for a team that hasn't had a good one in years, and may be the last missing piece.

Frye opted out of a $6.8 million contract. He's not going to Heat/Clippers. He's going to get paid.

Clippers can't afford to sign him though - even without Granger/Davis they're still at 74mil, 60 mil tied up in Paul/Griffin/Jordan/Reddick/Crawford alone and I think Frye will get more a touch more than the mid - maybe not. Never know, I guess thinking about that more the Clips could bring him in (would open the floor for Griffin) but I like the Heat, Houston too if Melo doesn't go there (Frye would really open it up there, that's a lot of 3 pt shooters which would make the Rockets look more like a better version of Howard's days on the Magic).
