Just throwing it out there but BC really wanted Gay to come here (for years) and become the franchise player and made that trade, MU might not see it the same way and trade Gay.

I don't see it that way, and imo it shouldn't be seen that way.
I think of it as: Player A for Player B for Player C, which essentially is Player A for Player C. Not Players AB for C.
In our case Gay played for us so that would be added bonus, not to talking about for sweeteners that would come with the pick.
Or in other words
Jose+Ed+2rounder for rental of Gay+top3pick2013+sweeteners

It seems so far that they want him front and center as the guy. At least Casey is saying that. I'd be beyond pissed if Gay is dealt for a pick. I don't see it happening tbh, but if it did........rage.

well sure,

so it's
a) Calderon+Davis+2nd
b) Gay
c) pick

You combine a and b for some reason.

Anyway, this organization needs a plan, which is up for Ujiri to figure out. I don't mind going either way right now, as long as it's going somewhere.

If this team can manage to turn Bargnani+picks into a legit All Star like some people suggest, kudos to Ujiri, fine with me. That team could probably win 50 games. Indiana went to conference finals after winning 49. That's good enough for me. That's near-contention. If things go right, maybe a good free agent signing, maybe a good draft pick, maybe LeBron gets injured, then who knows, that team might win a title.

If it can't manage to add a major player in trades, it needs to try to get him in the draft. Not likely to get a real star in this year's draft but next year's draft is good.
So, get a Gay-level talent in this year's draft. Make a few more moves if possible, collect picks. Tank. Next summer you have three good youngsters (Jonas+2014+2013) and some veterans, possibly some cap space.

One way or the other, there has to be a plan.
"pro tankers suck derp derp" is just parrot talk. It's not about tanking or not, it's about having a plan and competing for a title one day. Rudy is ok, but this roster is mediocre, some moves have to be made.

For some reason? Because those are the totality of players it took for us to get that pick.

A + B = C

You never had A+B. You had A, then you had B, then you have C.

If you have 10 US dollars, go to a bank and exchange it for 10.5 Canadian dollars, then go and spend it on a meal, how much did the meal cost you? 10.5 Canadian dollars, or 10.5 CAD + 10 USD?

Fans love chasing the tank.
Fans love not being first round fodder.

Remember Philly 2 years ago? Similar situation with gay and iggy, overpaid guys who can lead their team to low playoff berth. Now look where they are...worse than us.

According to my math it would be more like

A = B = C

Kind of hard to compare. They traded youngsters/pick/All Star for a superstar on bad knees.

A comparable scenario would be trading Gay/Ross/Jonas/pick for Chris Paul, and then Chris Paul's knee issues return.

Philly is kind of screwed. They should've kept the young guys and just taken the pick + Afflalo, if Iguodala was really causing issues with the coach, as reported.
If they can't get Bynum back and healthy, they are stuck in mediocrity for a few years.

First round fodder? You believe we're going to go from 10th and the first time we make it back to the playoffs we're going to go deep into the playoffs?

They're worse than us for various reasons. One being that they traded their best player. Another is health. Trading Gay for a pick in a shitty draft will not get us anywhere imo. The player you get likely won't be as good ot better than Gay and we'd have capspace which has never been our friend. Trading our best SF since T-Mac in hopes he can be as good in 3-4 years will not attract players. It would mean a 3rd reboot in 8yrs with us likely looking for a new coach in 12 months.

Why not keep Rudy here see what the chemistry is with this team for a full season with this summer's additions and next summer when Gay is an expiring and there is a much stronger draft, if you still want to do something like that then maybe do it, with Lowry expiring at the same time.

The only problem with that is what team in the 2014 draft - that is as strong as it is - is going to trade their pick for Gay? Certainly not going to happen imo.

So we should trade him for a pick in a weak draft? What for?

What do you happens after Gay is traded? How many games the Raptors would win?

The Charlotte Bobcats are shopping Michael Kidd-Gilchrist around the league, confident they will be able to replace him with Otto Porter of Georgetown with the No. 4 pick in Thursday’s draft.

I don't remember Sheridan reporting something that came true. He's one of the bigger hacks, in my view.
