Mike Miller's agent was informed by the Heat last night that the team will use the amnesty clause to release Miller, according to Joseph Goodman of the Miami Herald (via Twitter). Heat president Pat Riley told reporters last week that the team was leaning toward not using its amnesty provision this year, but left the door open to the possibility.

Miller was set to earn $6.2MM in 2013/14 and had a $6.6MM player option for '14/15. The Heat will still pay him those two years of salary, or perhaps a slightly smaller amount if Miller ends up signing with another team. According to Brian Windhorst of ESPN.com (via Twitter), the veteran's reps are reaching out to gauge interest from other clubs.

The Detroit Pistons have discussed a sign-and-trade with the Milwaukee Bucks for Brandon Jennings.

Jennings is a restricted free agent and has a $4.5 million qualifying offer on the table from the Bucks.

Jennings is reportedly seeking a four-year, $48 million contract and whether he wants to return to the Bucks is in doubt.

Detroit has to do something. They can't expect Billups to play starter minutes for an entire season. He's old, he's just too old.
Jennings and Knight, Stuckey and Billups... that would actually be a formidable backcourt.

RealGM is reporting that the Pistons contacted the Celtics about Rondo. Dumars supposedly offered Knight and expirings. RealGM didn't provide a source for rumour so it might be horseshit. But given what Dumars offered us for Rudy, it seems possible. If this is true, people might stop taking calls from Dumars. "Oh, hi, Joe, let me guess: you want our best player for an expiring, right? Yeah, um, we'll pass, and please fuck off." - every GM in the league

Mike Miller still has game, brings loads of experience, and would come cheap. I'll be shocked if he clears the amnesty waivers.

It's tiny and poor shot selection. Add Josh Smith's shot selection and the spacing issues up front. That's one ugly offense.

Maybe they plan to trade Knight. Jennings-Pope would be a nice backcourt long term.

Otherwise Dumars should chill and keep the space for next summer. Maybe add a few shooters (especially SF) on short deals. Delfino / Morrow?

Although, they might have a new GM to use that cap space next summer so I guess that's Dumar's dilemma here.

Bogans actually got PAID because of this trade. He's earned 14 mil in 10 years and now he's going to get 5+ mil next year because the Nets needed an expiring to make salaries work and sign and traded him. Bogans basically won a lottery.

Humphries also got his current contract only because the Nets wanted to have a huge short deal for trades.

These guys are probably just resting from laughing out loud.

That depends on your opinion of Jennings

Dumars is looking like colon jelly v2 with some of the moves he's making, I wouldn't be surprised to see them target Rudy and make an actual offer that involves more than cap relief.
