Looks like we are filling out Casey's bench...

Raptors, I'm told, making strong play to hire Bill Bayno away from Timberwolves' bench to add him to Dwane Casey's staff in Toronto

Nets kind of like the Blazers when they had Sheed, Pippen, Smith, Damon, etc...
No big weakness. 12 solid players. No big time star in their prime as well (an yes, I don't think D Will is a top 5 PG in the league)
They're exactly who I thought of as well in comparison. Hopefully unlike those Blazers, they dont choke when it matters and are able to beat the evil empire in the conference finals this time around.

And they become Milwaukee West, except in the West, treadmilling gets you the 10th or 11th seed instead of the 8th seed.

A Jose/Ellis backcourt will be so entertaining to watch on defence.

I'm beyond depressed about this.

They'll score a lot though. That's for sure. They really, really needed a good C to make it work. Now their only choices are Oden or Sammy D.

Hopefully they can somehow scam away Omer Asik.

If they get Asik they'd have a shot at the 8th seed because he's actually able to cover up a lot of guard mistakes on defence, but Sammy D is a joke as a starting center.

Or we sign Oden, he gets over his injuries and becomes the best C in the league.

It's just a shame what happened to the Mavs.

If there is any good news for the Mavs (you'd have to be a pretty big optimist), it's that they should have massive cap space again next season. At that point, Dirk can re-sign for a cheaper contract in order to allow Cuban to allocate the majority of the space towards adding new talent. They'll likely make Dirk's deal a longer one to spread out the cash and save cap space next year. But I don't know who they could expect to sign, given that they struck out so hard this summer already.

Depending on what happens next year, especially with the Heat's big 3 and their early termination options, there might be a handful of big name free agents this time next year.

All of the following could be free agents next summer:

Paul Pierce
Carmelo (if he uses his early termination option)
Lebron (early termination option)
Bosh (early termination option)
Wade (early termination option)
Ray Allen
Luol Deng
Danny Granger
Andrew Bogut
Pau Gasol
Gortat

And then there are a few interesting RFAs that still might not be extended.

When it rains, it pours

@WojYahooNBA: Shane Larkin, the Dallas Mavericks' 1st-round pick, broke his ankle in summer league practice, sources told Y! Could be out 2-3 months.

The Boston Celtics could be looking to trade Gerald Wallace and Kris Humphries, according to a report.

The Celtics currently have more than the maximum-allowed 15 players on their roster, thus the possibility of trades.

Humphries has one year and $12 million left on his contract; Wallace has three years and $30 million left on his deal.

Of course they're looking to trade them, but the likelyhood there's any takers is very small. They have a better chance of trading Humphries actually, but they'd have to package Wallace with picks I think to be able to offload his 3 year deal.

The Dallas Mavericks are discussing the framework of a deal that would pay Brandan Wright somewhere in the range of $4 million per year, according to a league source.

The Mavericks own Wright’s early bird rights, allowing them to go over the salary cap to re-sign him.

Wright spent the past two seasons with the Mavericks, averaging 7.8 points, 3.8 rebounds and 1.2 blocks in 17.2 minutes per contest.
