Poor man's rondo/Livingston at best. Look, if he can come in here, play D, not turn the ball over and be a decent distributor.......cool. I like his size, gotta be the biggest PG we've ever had, no?

Looks like a solid deal for everyone. I wonder what picks and where.

I would've prefered Calderon for the Kings, though... They need as much vet leadership as they can get, especially to develop McLemore.

I'm still hoping we go after Randy Foye, but this is a solid, low-risk move for someone that Masai clearly saw something in.

I'm told Dwight Howard and Jose Calderon are interested in playing together. Calderon may wait for Howard to make a decision before signing.

The odd couple....:mattyd:

The Golden State Warriors believe they have a legitimate shot to sign Dwight Howard in free agency and have aggressively tried to trade away big contract players such as Andrew Bogut, Richard Jefferson and Andris Biedrins, according to sources.

The Warriors were able to get Howard's attention while meeting the Los Angeles Lakers free agent this week.

Golden State is searching for teams with salary camp room to dump players.

Howard is expected to make his free agency decision by Friday.

The Detroit Pistons are considering re-signing Jose Calderon and Will Bynum.

Both Calderon and Bynum are unrestricted free agents.

Calderon recently turned down a contract from Sacramento, while Bynum has garnered interest from the New York Knicks and Chicago Bulls.

Chauncey Billups is also being considered by the Pistons, who have just three guards under contract Brandon Knight, Rodney Stuckey and Kim English -- for 2013-14.

Why would someone take on Biedrins contract?

Cleveland must be planning to trade Thompson, because the Clark signing makes no sense otherwise. They already have Thompson, Bennett, Varejao, Zeller at the 4/5. Clark is a 4, who can only play 3 in VERY short stretches because he cant spread the floor or dribble well enough on the perimeter to be effective on offence, nor is he quick enough to guard the 3 consistently on D. He's basically a stretch 4 who's seen as a potential 3 because he has above average quickness for his size, but its not good enough to play the 3.

I'm sure in the Warriors case, they'll wait for Dwights decision and then try and move those guys? Some of the articles make it seem like they're going to do it before he makes up his mind, where they'd be left with less than what they started with :jack:

Bogut has value because he can still play and would contribute.

I think you're missing the point with regard to the other two contracts of Biedrins and Jefferson. Expiring contracts have value to teams when they get to send salary back to the other team. But that's not the case here, because Golden state is trying to create cap space IMMEDIATELY. Golden State won't take anything significant back. If they're trying to sign Howard outright, then they need to teams to take those contracts without sending salary back to Golden State.

That means they have to find teams that are willing to blow huge cap space on absorbing Biedrins and Jefferson. That, or they have to find a team with a trade exception to absorb the deal. I guess Golden State could offer picks with the players to sweeten the deal, but since GS will likely be a playoff team the next few years, those picks might not have enough value to get a team to bite.

You're also missing the point, I think. Do you not realize that they're trying to create cap space IMMEDIATELY? That means they want a team to just take Biedrins, without sending anything back. So who the fuck cares if it is expiring?

9M is a fortune for biedrins, no team would be that dumb to take that contract even if it was for a year, I really wish he got his game back though

My guess is that they are testing the waters to find out what sweetner it will take to move those guys, and then if they get a positive response from Dwight, they will consider their options to get it done, if possible.

If they are gonna sign Dwight outright, which the wire tap suggets they're trying to do, then the Warriors need to get their payroll down under $40 million so that they can give Dwight his max.

The ideal way to do that would be to ditch Jefferson, Biedrins and Bogut, but there are other ways to do it. They could also look to move David Lee while taking little back. Having Howard is better than having Lee. They could also try to ditch Brandon Rush's expiring contract for nothing in return. There is a combination of options, if they're really serious about getting Dwight.

The problem is how much sweetner they have to add in order to facillitate these deals, since they are asking teams to fully absorb some of these guys (or close to it) with their cap space. To get it done, I think Golden State will have to send out several picks and cash. That's if it's even possible to get it done.

I know L.A. claims they won't do a S&T with GS, but if the Warriors offered Bogut, Barnes, and 3 future picks, the Lakers should at least consider it. Because GS might just send those assets out to other teams in order to create the cap space for an outright signing, then the Lakers are left with shit.
