Colangelo-esque. But I suppose you have to overpay in a market like this where there are so many teams with cap space and few legit wings.

The move is risky given his injuries and regression in play, but with a high reward if Tyreke stays healthy and returns to his rookie season form. At the end of his rookie season, a lot of people would have guessed Evans would be a lock for a max contract right now. When playing at his best, Tyreke is capable of doing almost everything; creating for others, rebounding, getting to the foul line. If he could become even just an average outside shooter and stronger defender, he could dominate games.

But it's a huge question mark whether that ever happens.

Pacers sign Nate McMillan as associate head coach aka Brian Shaw replacement

Quote:
INDIANAPOLIS – The Indiana Pacers announced Monday that Nate McMillan has been signed as an associate head coach. Per club policy, no terms of the contract are released. McMillan replaces Brian Shaw, who became head coach at Denver.

McMillan comes to the Pacers with a vast basketball background as a player and as a coach. After playing collegiately at North Carolina State, McMillan was drafted by Seattle (30th overall) in the 1986 NBA Draft. He played his entire 12-year career with the Sonics, had his number (10) retired and became their coach in 2000 and remained in Seattle until after the 2005 season. He then went to Portland that year and coached the Trail Blazers until he was let go in March, 2012. McMillan also served as an assistant coach for the U.S. National Team in the 2006 FIBA World Championships, the 2008 Beijing Olympics and the 2012 London Olympics.

“We are extremely thrilled to have Nate join our staff,” said Pacers head coach Frank Vogel. “To get someone with his experience as a player and a coach will be extremely valuable to our players, to our staff and to our franchise.”

“To be able to join a respected franchise like this is a great opportunity,” said McMillan. “It’s obvious the potential this team has to compete for a championship and to come on board at a time like this is great timing for me. I really look forward to working with this coaching staff and the players. I have heard nothing but good things about everyone involved and that made this a very easy decision to make.”

Reke actually had a really solid year, averaging 15 4 4 1.5 on 48/33/75. If the Pelicans can get that type of production from him and he can fit in with Jrue and Davis, he'll be worth his contract because he does a lot of things well on the court, and his defence is underrated.

The key with Reke is to limit his ISO plays, which SAC did last year, and him shooting 48% from the floor I think shows he grew up a lot despite being used less in the offence.

Too many people are looking at his contract and seeing the Tyreke from years 2-3 with his lack of improvement and overall stubbornness to change. But again, if he plays like he did last year in being under control, and playing more within the teams offense, he'll be worth his deal.

Rumour is, the Pelicans plan to use Evans as a super sixth man. So they wanted to sign him regardless of whether they can trade Gordon right away. That, or they are just saying it so tehy don't look desperate to unload Gordon and cause his trade value doesn't to go down.

Either way, if the Pelicans could just stay healthy, they have a lot of young talent. They might be a playoff team, or damn close to it, during the '14-15 season.

48mil now??

Quote:
The New Orleans Pelicans have made a four-year offer to Tyreke Evans worth $48 million. Sam Amick reports the deal at $44 million, but David Aldridge has $48 million.

The Pelicans plan on using Evans as a deluxe sixth man similar to the way the San Antonio Spurs use Manu Ginobili, according to Sean Deveney of the Sporting News.

Evans is a restricted free agent, giving the Sacramento Kings the opportunity to match.

Evans was the 2010 NBA Rookie of the Year.

Jason Jones of the Sacramento Bee reports that Evans will meet with the Kings at 8:00 PM EST. Evans could agree to an offer sheet with the Pelicans shortly after the Kings' meeting depending on how it goes.

If they can trade EG for Deng or Granger, you may see NOH in the playoffs as early as next year. Their starting lineup of Jrue/Reke/Granger or Deng/Davis/Lopez is very solid, plus Anderson off of the bench, with Vasquez still in play as a trade chip is a very nice potential lineup.

If Al Jefferson signs with the Bobcats, he probably becomes the best player in franchise history. It's a little sad.
