All-NBA First Team, Kobe or Wade?

Since Derrick Rose is pretty much a lock for the PG spot considering that he will most likely be MVP this season. Who will get the spot at the 2 guard? Wade or Kobe? The SF and C spot will be locked up with LeBron and Howard. The PF spot is debatable at the moment as well.

Don Vito 04-11-2011 12:15 AM

Kobe.

PF will go to Nowitzki.

iRaptor 04-11-2011 12:21 AM

Bosh PF?

Hasn't Stoudemire put up better stats across the board than Nowitzki? Also don't forget that Nowitzki was battling an injury this season to which made him miss quite a few games.

Slightly better in a few categories. Amar'e is blocking a lot of shots this year, but his defensive rating is worse than Nowitzki's.

From an offensive perspective, Nowitzki has been very efficient this year. He's shooting 52%, which is amazing when you consider how many 3s he takes. Dirk's PPG would probably be higher than Stoudemire's if he took the same number of shots.

He missed 9 games. But that might actually turn out to be a positive, because it demonstrated just how crucial Dirk is to the Mavericks offense. Dallas was 2-7 without Dirk but have a 53-18 record when he is in the lineup.

I think Dirk will probably make 1st team.

Toby 04-11-2011 01:46 AM

Gerald Wallace, omg, he's straight killin' fools over here!

Dutches 04-11-2011 02:49 AM

Kobe fo sho.

I'd love to see Dirk but I could see Aldrige gettin' it too.

Wallace has been good in Portland Toby, but he's only been there for a few months, and prior to that he was having a a season of regression in Charlotte.

MARTYNAS 04-11-2011 06:10 AM

Dwight Howard
Dirk Nowitzki
LeBron James
Kobe Bryant
Derick Rose

Easy peasy

OK, I get the Miami Heat is the most hated team in the NBA and all (mostly because of LeBron), but even before we got LeBron and Bosh I would have said the same thing I'm saying now. Dwyane Wade has been better than Kobe Bryant since the 2008-2009 season and is the most underrated and underappreciated superstar of his generation.

One fan on the Heat boards once said "LeBron at most is 5% better than Dwyane, but Dwyane will receive about 5% of the recognition and props that LeBron gets", and it's 100% true.

Back on topic though, Wade vs Kobe, Wade no doubt. Back in 09, Dwyane Wade finished 3rd in voting for Defensive Player of the Year, but Kobe got the nod over Wade for All Defensive First Team. How? Kobe and LeBron before "The Decision", were the NBA's poster boys and golden childs. Now because everyone hates LeBron, they jumped on the Durant ship (momentarily, now they're all on the Rose bandwagon) and of course they are still sticking with Kobe like glue.

Before everyone says Kobe for first team, let me just point out the stats and situation.

Wade: 25.6ppg 6.4rpg 4.5apg 1.5spg 1.1bpg 50%FG 76%FT 31%3 25.5PER in 37.2mpg.
Kobe: 25.2ppg 5.1rpg 4.7apg 1.2spg 0.1bpg 45%FG 82%FT 32%3 23.8PER in 33.8mpg.

Now before you guys point out that Wade plays about 3 and a half more minutes per game than Kobe, I would also like it to be known that Kobe shoots the ball 19.9 times a game on average to Wade's 18.3. So Kobe takes more shots than Wade in less time and less effectively at that.

Dwyane Wade has proven to be the better defender between the two (although there have been times where Wade was lazy on defense, such as against Nick Young and Ray Allen for example). Also, Wade had to change his game up a bit this year, playing off the ball more than he has ever done in his basketball career because LeBron has the ball so much. So for Wade to only drop by about a point and an assist, but still be able to stay on par and do better in some areas to that of last season (when both he and Kobe made First All NBA Team, not to mention Kobe's season isn't better than his previous one), should alone make Wade First Team All NBA.

With all of that said, I expect Kobe to get the nod over Wade for First Team All-NBA, because as a Wade fan we're used to him constantly being overlooked. I'm not just saying this as the Heat fan that everyone seems to hate, I'm speaking truth here. Dwyane Wade will probably never get the respect (as far as recognition) he deserves, and it's sad to say that (for example Colin Cowherd saying Rajon Rondo was better than Wade last year, Kenny Smith saying Durant was better this year and the media automatically saying the Heat are LeBron's team upon arrival).

/End Rant. :sigh:

Kobe and Nowitzki will get on.

I think Wade is better than Kobe at the moment but Kobe will be 1st team, I'm quite sure.

Alex 04-11-2011 06:19 PM

Kobe will get 1st team just because he's Kobe.

th3answ3r 04-11-2011 06:23 PM

Rose
Kobe
James
Dirk
Dwight

Sauce 04-11-2011 06:46 PM

Dwight Howard
Dirk Nowitzki
LeBron James
Kobe Bryant
Derick Rose

Second team will probably have:

Pau Gasol
Amare Stoudamire
Kevin Durant
Dwayne Wade
Rondo (or Daron Williams)

I'm not a fan of either but when Wade has 5 Rings, play through multiple injuries, including spraining a finger and saying "meh i'll just shoot with the other hand", then you can say Wade deserves it more than Kobe.

Wade is glass doll compared to the Ironman that is Kobe. Kobe is the real Tony Starks and Ghostface Killa in one man. Do not fuck with him.

Metallikid 04-12-2011 03:13 AM

All-NBA teams usually feature 'value to the team' as a large part of the criteria (i.e. Bosh getting second team when we won 47) and based on that Kobe is more important. Same goes for Dirk even though last year they went LeBron/KD at the forward spot for 1st team. I think David Aldridge's rankings were pretty spot on.

Given his youth, of course Wade will edge Kobe in pure stats, but it's the closest call in the top two All-NBA teams and it's really just 1A/1B when it comes down to it.

And I think anyone who argues for Wade here prefers stats and they should really look at Rose's; they're simply not MVP calibre for a true stat-head.

Wade suffered a dislocated shoulder and came back to have the best season of his career, setting a record and winning the scoring title. Kobe played with a hurt pinky finger. Let's not act like Wade is a glass doll do to a freak injury.

And Championships is a team accomplishment, Kobe did not win those 5 rings by himself, in fact his first 3 he was the sidekick to Shaquille O'Neal (my all-time favorite).

And besides all of that, what does that have to do with this season? And Metallikid, Wade is every bit as valueable to the Heat as Kobe is to the Lakers. Outside of Bosh, LeBron and Haslem (when healthy), the Heat don't have too much. The Lakers still have Bynum (Top 5 Center), Pau Gasol (Top 3 Power Foward), Ron Artest, Derek Fisher, Matt Barnes and Lamar Odom (potential and likely 6th Man of the Year). They're a deeper team than the Heat.

The Heat have a better record than LA, Wade has better stats than Kobe despite having to go through some changes to his game and doing some differing to LeBron and Wade has totally outplayed Kobe in both meetings this year, playing stellar defense on him.

Wade deserves All-NBA First Team over Kobe, who will probably get it off of his name alone.
