Ainge Named Executive Of The Year

Anyone surprised? It was either him or Kupchak who ended up coming in 2nd place. No back-to-back awards for BC, not that he did anything really last season. :(

Sporting News has named Boston Celtics Executive Director, Basketball Operations and General Manager, the 2007-08 NBA Executive of the Year.

Sporting News polled general managers and other executives from all 30 teams, and Ainge received 18 of the 47 votes cast. He beat out Los Angeles Lakers general manager, Mitch Kupchak, who had 14 votes, and New Orleans Hornets general manager Jeff Bower who had 12.

“He orchestrated a stunning and record setting turnaround of a struggling team with two great trades and various other roster acquisitions.” said Brian Colangelo, President and General Manager of the Toronto Raptors and the 2005 Executive of the Year.

Pat Williams, Senior Vice President of the Orlando Magic added, “Ainge was the architect of the most dramatic NBA turnaround ever.”

that was an easy pick.

Great choice, he deserves not for the Garnett and Allen acquisitions, but the supporting cast he brought in a la Posey, Tony Allen, etc. The Celts supporting players really made the team this year.

Unanimous. The Garnett, Allen addition says it all

Why?

It's all because of Garnett and Ray Allen they had the turnaround.

It's got nothing to do with the other guys he brought in and Rondo, Perkins and Tony Allen was already there.

IMO all the players he chose to keep/brought in (almost the same thing, just constructing the team) were high character guys, all of them. It was the perfect backing for the big 3.
