Default 76ers: Nerlens Noel may miss the entire season

Nerlens Noel injury: 76ers rookie may miss season with torn ACL - SBNation.com

Quote:
Philadelphia 76ers rookie center Nerlens Noel may miss the entire 2013-14 season with a torn ACL suffered in February as a member of the Kentucky Wildcats. Sixers coach Brett Brown suggested to reporters on Monday that rehab on Noel's ACL has been slow and that he could miss his entire rookie campaign. Brown told reporters he doubts Noel sees the court this season.

Despite the ACL injury, Noel was drafted with the No. 6 overall pick in this summer's draft by the New Orleans Pelicans. Noel was then traded to Philadelphia along with a first round pick in the 2014 draft and the rights to Pierre Jackson for point guard Jrue Holiday. Noel and fellow rookie Michael Carter-Williams were signed to contracts in September and are expected to be a big part of the new-look 76ers moving forward.

The possibility of losing Noel for the entire season comes just one year after fellow center Andrew Bynum spent the entire 2012 season on the bench with a knee injury of his own. Philadelphia is pretty obviously set for a rebuidling year, so they could afford to let Noel rehab the entire season without any pressure to compete. There is precedent for sitting a full season with an torn ACL. Bulls star Derrick Rose sat out all of last season after tearing his ACL in the first game of the 2012 playoffs.

Update: Noel's agent says 'there have been no decisions made at this time.'

They'll be holding open auditions to the public for a center here pretty soon.

Oh I can come in as young unheard of 6 foot 1 player on a non-guaranteed contract and have the record for the least amount of time on the court and the quickest player ever to get a flagrant foul :mu: If they're going to be really horrible at least have fun with it.

Derrick Rose one of the toughest dude's in the league, and it took him well over a year to recover from ACL knee surgery. It's not a sprained ankle, it takes a lot of work to get back into game shape. Philly should just remind Nerlens not to go bowling.

The 76ers are downplaying Nerlens Noel’s tweet.

Coach Brett Brown said Monday that he didn’t ask the rookie center the meaning behind posting “4-4-14” a day earlier on Twitter.

However, according to sources, Noel would like to make his Sixers debut in his hometown of Boston on April 4. They confirmed that’s why he tweeted “4-4-14” in reference to April 4, 2014 on Sunday afternoon. The Sixers will play that night in TD Garden against the Boston Celtics.

It's best for him just to sit out this season and come back next year. Imagine if he made his debut in Boston, only to get injured. Philly fans would be pissed.
