4 point line?

NBA Has Considered Adding Four Point Line - RealGM Wiretap

Quote:

The NBA has considered adding a four-point line, as Rod Thorn said that the concept has "come up" in discussions.

"Oh man," Thorn told Abbott, "Some of the players we have can shoot the ball 30 feet as easily as they can shoot 23, 24 feet."

Thorn remembers how good Vince Carter could shoot from well beyond the three-point line.

"I remember when we had Vince Carter in New Jersey," Thorn said. "Well, he could shoot the ball from the seats and make half of 'em."

A four-point line would spread the floor as well.

"In the NBA, we just clogged up the middle and dared teams to shoot from the outside," Alex Hannum said. "Nobody bothered to guard anyone 20 feet from the basket, but the 3-point play really did open up the middle...No other rule made the game more wide open and more fun to watch."

Definitely would add a lot more excitement and the last 2 minutes of games would be even more critical.

Sorry, i put this in the wrong forum. Can someone change it?

TORaptor4Ever 02-25-2014 03:00 PM

Something tells me that Curry would be just fine with that. Ha.

XiaominWu 02-25-2014 03:00 PM

Antoine Walker is already calling around for a tryout. :yeah:

LKeet6 02-25-2014 03:00 PM

4 point line!? nah, that's just crazy.

rule changes have already made the lane less clogged and made Cs less dominant/important. If anything, should consider rules to try and bring big-men back in a bit.

Wouldn't have much of an impact on gameplay unless they made the court wider so they could have a full semi-circle 4 point line that curves from the one side of the baseline to the other such as the traditional three point line.. As of now, there isn't enough room, and having a soft arc that goes from sideline to sideline would only impact the strategy at the end of the game when a team is down big.

jeffb 02-25-2014 03:06 PM

If you hit a half court shot from your side of the court give them 4pts. :mu:

Yes, by all means, let's make the game even more complicated...

If it ain't broke, don't try to fix it people.
The 3 opened up the game, sure, but adding a 4 wouldn't have that same effect.

I agree, it's not as if there is a shortage of scoring in the NBA. It's a gimmick they don't need.

Sounds like Silver's wasting no time trying to put his stamp on the game...

5 point plays, ugh, and imagine a player attempting 4 free throws in a row, so time consuming and boring. What they should really try to do is speed up the free throw shooting. It's the most boring aspect of the game.

I doubt this just came up in the last month.

Okay, true, and Silver's been running things a lot longer than after Stern's retirement. But it would be his first/biggest official act as Stern's successor.

Nites 02-25-2014 03:25 PM

They should make the game full contact and let the players wear padding of all sorts and shorten the season to 30 games.

Torontosaurus 02-25-2014 03:27 PM

I really hope they don't do this. I can already imagine teams desperate to win trying to get a 5 point play. And I have no doubt guys like LeBron would get those calls every time, while Lowry would get nada.

Mehh, don't see it happening anyway. It's been considered, kinda like when the NHL wanted to change their net size. A lot of shit is discussed but never happen.

Let's hope advertisements on uniforms falls under that same category.

So if your down 8 it would only be a two possession game? lol

carp 02-25-2014 03:59 PM
