Nuggets 3 team deal that almost sent Melo to NJ

Excellent deal for all involved imo. Shit, Favors/Harris/3 picks to Denver would be amazing from their end.

Quote:
The Nets have a standing offer of rookie Derrick Favors, two first-round draft picks and Troy Murphy on the table, but last month, sources said the Nuggets weren't interested in Murphy because they would have inherited the remaining $8 million on his expiring contract. So the Nets brought in Cleveland and its $14.5 million trade exception.

Denver would have received Favors, Devin Harris and three first-round picks. Cleveland would have received Murphy and one or two first-round picks, and the Nets would have received Anthony, Al Harrington and the Cavaliers' trade exception, the sources said.

Beyond the sticking point of Anthony accepting or refusing to sign the long-term extension with New Jersey, the deal fell apart because both Denver and Cleveland wanted the 2012 first-round pick the Nets got from Golden State in the Marcus Williams trade. That pick is protected through the first seven slots.

How would NJ compete though? With Harris, Favors, Murphy, Terrence Williams, and 2 first round picks gone, they don't have much of a contending team now or in the future. All is left is basically Anthony, Lopez and Harrington.

That's a good point.

Anthony and Lopez is a great core. I guess they'll go the FA route. Sign some players to surround Anthony and B.Lopez. It's going to be expensive for sure. But the Russian billionaire is the owner, so anything is possible.

PG - Jordan Farmar
SG - Anthony Morrow
SF - Carmelo Anthony
PF - Al Harrington
C - Brook Lopez

I guess they could pick up a PG with part of their TPE and then fill out their bench rotation with the rest of it. If money isn't a problem then they could do some serious damage in the off season.

I suppose Billups would be next if this happened.

That Marcus Williams deal is looking like a steal right now.

We should be adding our trade exemption in the mix.....murphy would do great here. Bargs over to PF,

PF:bargs - Amir
C: Troy Murphy - Ed Davis

Murphy and Bargnani have similar games. They like to shoot from the outside. Even though Murphy picks up a lot of rebounds, I think he would take away from Bargnani's game and vice-versa.

*nods*

It could end up being a top 10 pick.

The Williams draft pick is conditional:

Quote:
The first round selection the Nets obtained from Golden State will either be lottery protected 1-14 in 2011, lottery protected 1-11 in 2012 or lottery protected 1-10 in 2013.

Thanks for trying to add clarification, but that's not consistent with the more up-to-date article that started this thread.

Here is the quote from ESPN(link in Jeff's post):

Quote:
, the deal fell apart because both Denver and Cleveland wanted the 2012 first-round pick the Nets got from Golden State in the Marcus Williams trade. That pick is protected through the first seven slots.
Thus, it could be a 8-10 pick, depending on wether or not Golden state improves over the next year and a half.

Apparently, Detroit is in the mix now. Anthony and Billups to NJ and Hamilton to Denver or something.

Here's an article about that:

Quote:
In the complicated scenario that’s being discussed, the Nets would send Derrick Favors, Devin Harris and at least two first-round picks to Denver and Troy Murphy’s expiring contract to the Pistons. In return, the Nets would get Anthony and Chauncey Billups from the Nuggets and likely Richard Hamilton from the Pistons, who are looking to shed salary. Hamilton has two years and $25 million remaining on his contract.

There are many more players involved, including Anthony Morrow going to Denver and Johan Petro to Detroit — to make the salaries match. But this is one of multiple things the Nets are discussing in an effort to land Anthony.
That deal would instantly make New jersey a contender. Hope Detroit or Denver rejects this deal.

So, if Detroit got involved, New jersey would have a core of ...

PG - Billups
SG - Hamilton
SF - Anthony
PF - Outlaw
C - Lopez

Interesting.

If i were them i'd rather keep Morrow then get hamilton, especially with Billups there as well. Billups is old why throw in Hamilton at his age on top of that.

Would be cool to see Billups and Hamilton together again. Plus, Hamilton can still play, he just needs some motivation. There isn't anything to look forward to in Detroit.

Billups-Hamilton is a solid back court. They have experience together in Detroit.

I think their veteran savvy would motivate the other players on the team, kind of what Garnett-Pierce-Allen did in Boston.
