Red face 2012 NBA draft not as impressive as first thought?

Could this be Colangelo?

Quote:
At least one NBA general manager has not been overly impressed so far by the potential 2012 draft class.

"Everyone talks about how great this draft is," one NBA GM said. "On paper in July, it really looked that way. On the ground in February, I'm not that impressed. Anthony Davis is great. But after that, there are a lot of question marks and a surprising lack of depth. I'm not sure that the 2012 draft will be better than the 2011 one."

North Carolina’s Harrison Barnes, Baylor’s Perry Jones, Ohio State’s Jared Sullinger, and Kentucky’s Terrence Jones have failed to show significant improvement from one season to the next while UConn's Andre Drummond and Duke’s Austin Rivers have failed to live up to the hype that surrounded them.

Only two freshmen, Kentucky’s Michael Kidd-Gilchrist and Indiana's Cody Zeller, have exceeded expectations.

It's what I've been saying all along. Trade the pick with ED and let's get Batum and Nolan Smith.

And what we've been saying is Portland doesn't want Ed and Batum doesn't want Toronto. :P

I think this draft is pretty good, assuming most of the guys come out. It's definitely better and deeper than last year's draft. A guy like Drummond has disappointed, but players like MKG, Robinson, and Henson have really developed this year.

More & more I'm thinking that packaging the pick with Jose, Barbosa or Ed (to get a quality player in return) is gonna be the way to go.

It's something to consider if we end up in the 7-8 area or lower.

Just because some of them arent having stand out 2nd years doesnt mean they wont be quality NBA players. Most NCAA teams run the complete opposite sets of what NBA teams run offensively. Chris Paul looked like a 3 point shooting PG with decent passing ability in college, then he got to the NBA, ran a bunch of pick and rolls, and now looks like he may be the best pick and roll PG ever. Its a completely different game.

I still like this draft class. Trading the pick at the deadline would be franchise suicide if we ended up with a top pick and lost out on one of the top guys. I couldnt stand a Kyrie type situation. I'd quit as a Raptor fan.

They say this almost EVERY year until the hype machine starts around the play-in tournaments and culminates into March madness.

They say this to sell papers (or I guess advertising on websites now) then in a couple of weeks, you'll be hearing all of the hype, and some of the exact opposite opinions will come up.

With some big tournaments, a lot of players' stocks will rise (and fall) dramatically.

At least AD is considered the top pick
So many forwards in the draft, some of those could go really low.

No packaging our picks. We want an extra pick coming this way.

It has been a very hard season for Raptor fans with all the losing and the regression of Demar and Ed Davis. The only bright spot is this team is learning how to play defense. Let's not trade the pick. So what if there is no franchise player (Lebron, Durant, Rose) in the draft, as long as we get one star player that will fill one position for many years. The franchise needs a major talent infusion, and the best talent comes from the draft.

I've enjoyed this season so far. Maybe because my expectations were pretty low. But I'm liking what I see with our defence, Casey and players like JJ, Kleiza, Bargnani, Jose. Even when we lose, most of the time it's pretty close. This team is competing and is scrappy. I'm encouraged by what I see for the most part.
