Default 2011 All-Star game in LA...Once again...

LOS ANGELES – It doesn’t matter if the Lakers make it back to the NBA Finals for a fourth consecutive year or not, the eyes of the basketball world will be in on this city again in next year.

The 2011 All-Star Game will be played here at Staples Center on Feb. 20, 2011, the logo was unveiled Sunday night prior to Game 2 of the NBA Finals. Then hometown hero Shaquille O’Neal was the star of stars the last time the game was played here (above) in 2004, winning MVP honors after he and his then teammate Kobe Bryant combined for 44 points as the West slipped past the East 136-132.

Bryant will have a chance grab the trophy for himself next year, because when the game is played here someone from the hometown team usually has a chance to shine.

L.A. also hosted the All-Star Game in 1963, 1972 and 1983. The Los Angeles Memorial Sports Arena hosted All-Star in 1963, while the Forum hosted the other ’72 and ’83 games. The 1972 classic saw the Lakers’ Jerry West thrill the hometown fans with a last-second jumper that gave the West a 112-110 victory and netted him MVP honors.
Wow give Toronto a fuckin chance!!!!! or whatever if theres still contruction going on and T.O's not ready give to Boston, OKC, Chicago, Portland, Miami etc .

This is old bro...in 2012 im pretty sure it is orlando. And there is an article on this already why toronto doesn't host all star games. The reason is there is not a big enough facility at all. The acc is too small for the media and all the maddness an all star game brings.

IF/When? The Toronto Raptors are still a mediocre team in the next 5 years or so and still the laughing stock of the NBA and no player wants to come here and MLSE and David Stern sit down and have a meeting discussing relocation or what can be done to save the Franchise (Hello Pheonix Cayotes), Stern will give Toronto the All star weekend.

By then there should be a 2nd NHL team and Arena in the GTA anyway for the All star festivities

lol

Thats bull. Before the cowboy stadium game the allstar game was held at Phoenix and there arena according to my research is smaller then the ACC. Any NBA arena can hold the allstar game.

Yes I am serious. If Stern wanted the game in TOronto the players really wouldn't have much of a choice. Toronto will always be a long shot anyways as the NBA really doesn't rotate the ASG they just do more or less what the Superbowl does.

The topic has been flogged to death. Toronto will be awarded the ASG once Maple Leaf Sqaure is completed. I think Toronto has been a candidate in the past, but MLSE wanted to put it off until construction has been completed.

no not yet. the only thing open as of now is their new store called "real sports." By that same token i think they closed ACC centre sports.

Well isn't the Telus building also part of the square? All I know that's in there is Starbucks and I believe a variety type store.

I wonder what they'll do with the centre sports space then in the ACC? New food vendors?

Isn't Real Sports also a bar and grill? I could be mistaken.

Thank goodness they got rid of Centre Sports. It's cramped and the hours of operation suck.

IIRC Doug Smith said a while back that they needed somewhere to host the fan portion of the weekend and that the only suitable venue (the Convention Centre) was booked solid for the next 3 or 4 years.

I saw someone on TV move into one of the buildings (a month ago) and the first 10-15 stories were ready for people to live in

Yup, b/c of the auto show and I'd imagine that generates more revenue for the city than the all star game.
