2009-10 GM Survey Results: Rookies Predictions

Posted Oct 6 2009 1:32PM

It was a busy offseason for the league's General Managers, but before they sat back and watched their players and coaches go to work, NBA.com asked the GMs to fill out our eighth annual GM Survey.

Can the Lakers repeat for the seventh time in their history, will the Celtics capture banner No. 18, or will Shaq help the King get his ring? Will LeBron James earn another MVP award, and if you were putting together an NBA franchise, is he the player you'd most like to start with?

Those are just a few of the 60 questions NBA general managers responded to. See how their opinions compare to yours and if they got it right a year ago.

General managers were not permitted to vote for their own team or personnel. Percentages are based on the pool of respondents to each question of the survey, rather than all 30 GMs. The NBA.com GM Survey was compiled by John Schuhmann.

Blake Griffin Who will win the Rookie of the Year?
1. Blake Griffin, L.A. Clippers 79.3%
2. Jonny Flynn, Minnesota 10.3%
3. Tyreke Evans, Sacramento 6.9%
4. Stephen Curry, Golden State 3.4%
- Last year: Michael Beasley 48.1%

1. Rudy Fernandez, Portland 22.2%
2. Danilo Gallinari, New York 14.8%
3. Andrea Bargnani, Toronto 11.1%
3. Marco Belinelli, Toronto

Oddly, none are named in the Over all "break out" area.

Hmm

In my mind, Evans will be the clear winner if he is as good as his draft spot. Hes going to have by far the most opportunity of the rookies this year.

The Maloofs of all people SAID hes going to start.

Whereas you look at the other guys on that list, all of them have major compettition for minutes. Griffin has Camby and Kaman, not to mention Jordan who looks much improved. Flynn has Sessions infront of him. Curry has Ellis. All of these guys will still get minutes, but with Evans hes basically the #2 on the Kings besides Martin and he should be a 14+ PPG guy at the point with the minutes hes likely to get
