Default Who's the Better PG at 5?

With Kyrie Irving out of the picture, the next 2 best point guards on the board are Kemba Walker and Brandon Knight.

Walker is the better scorer but is not as good at jump shooting and defending as Brandon Knight.

I'm leaning towards Knight for his defense. Can't wait for the workouts to start in a couple weeks.

I was thinking the same thing too. We already have Jerryd Bayless who can break people down with the dribble and score (although he needs to find ways to do it more often and effectively). It's better to select someone with a different skillset- potential to guard at the point guard position.

I prefer Knight, too, but it looks like he might be off the board at 5. Then again, who knows? There's no clear cut winners and with the combine and workouts still ahead of us, there's a lot of time for opinions to change.

Walker. At least Walker played somewhat like a PG in his first and second year. Knight is a SG who we have to teach how to play point guard.

The problem I have with Walker is that his defence is sub-par. He's not even average, he's below. We need to break out of this trend of having point guards that can not defend their position. The last guy the Raptors had that can defend at the point was TJ Ford, and we did extremely well with him at the helm (before he got injured that is).

Way better is a stretch. He's smaller, not as good defensively and has questionable decision making skills. He is quicker and better on offense.

But imo the reason i think Knight is more the player we need is that he can defend better then Walker. Which is the one thing we desperately need at that position.

Walker has better lateral quicks. In the NBA point guards don't post up as much anymore. I think he'll be a better NBA defender.

i'm hoping for knight, but i'd be happy with walker. i like what i read about both of them in terms of maturity and leadership on the court. if we go with a point guard at 5, i think either way we look at it, we'll be adding a valuable piece to our future core.

walker and nate are nothing alike. what gives you that idea?

the only downside i've heard about walker's defence is his lack of height. i've only read great things about his awareness and effort.

Knight is way more versitale, more of point guard and a better defender. Apparantly he also has a very good work ethic, my cousin worked out with him and he said he would be in the gym for hours. Either way though I don't think a pg is the way to go unless every team is smoking some serious meth and Irving somehow dropped to us. There's not any big man prospects out there either though. Hopefully Kanter will drop to us, never thought I'd say that.

Some mock drafts have him at 7th -8th. I don't see us taking him anyway unless he absolutely blows us away in the workouts. IMO it's Walker, Knight, Leonard going by what BC said yesterday which means litte since it's so early though.

BC is not the type of GM that takes a risk in the draft with guys with injury history. I'd be shocked and disappointed if he took Kanter. I'd much rather get Bismack at #5.

On topic: I voted Knight. I think his size, athleticism and age will ultimately make a starter at worst. Walker is like 5 ft 10 which makes me really weary of him.

I'll take Josh Selby before both. I don't care what anyone really says. He plays with a chip on his shoulder and is a competitor. He's better PG material than either Kemba or Knight.

I see alot of Damon Stoudemire in Kemba Walker. Great handle, outside shot, ability to get to anywhere on the floor. Plus Kemba Walker is a great leader, something Raptors desperately need. However, what seperates Charlie V to Lamarcus Aldridge, Vince Carter to Kobe, its work ethic and the competitiveness to get better. From what I read, Brandon Knight is a gym rat and has a very strong work ethic. Plus, he has a high basketball IQ. Gotta go with Brandon Knight.

knight over walker :
1. defense
2. younger
3. taller
4. work ethic.

he can work with DD, who is a gym-rat too.
but it's early to know who take or who not.
kanter as C or biyumbo are nice, or some other dude leonard at SF, etc...
wait until workouts and we will see.

but please BC not a second Bargs !

Can't believe the votes... 4 - 15 REALLY? Kemba dominates Knight in every single category, even defense. When they played against each other Kemba took over the game and completely shut down Knight. I don't see anything in Knight, he is a poor mans Jrue Holiday. Watching Kemba play is like magic, he is an amazing basketball player.

I don't know why people think Knight is some kind of shut down defensive player, Kemba torched him every game they played.
