Brandon Knight, who like Evans played one year for John Calipari in college, is confident he could lead an NBA team.

"I think I would fit in as long as I could come in and be able to run a team," Knight said. "I'm not sure how it would work with Tyreke, but I'm pretty sure we could play together. I just want to come in and fit in wherever I go."

Making a Knight-Evans backcourt work likely won't be an issue.

Knight is expected to go no lower than fifth to Toronto, two spots ahead of the Kings in the first round.

Knight said he would work out for Toronto next week.

I don't think so. At least not live. They might post a video on Raptors.com but they traditionally do not broadcast the workouts.

They have shown short clips along with scrum sessions on raptors today.

Looks like Kemba impressed the staff.

Quote:

“Most impressive today was his passing ability,” Kelly said.

“The situation called on him to be more of a scorer ... he was basically the first and second option they had on their team. I think he’s a versatile enough guard that he can do both, especially scoring the ball.

“I think he’s going to have the ball in his hand most of the time and I think he has the capability to be a true point guard.”

Despite that statement, Kelly added that the NBA game has gone away from what it once was.

Traditional, “true” point guards, floor generals who looked to set up their teammates the bulk of the time have been replaced by hybrid guards like Russell Westbrook and Derrick Rose who threaten to score 25-30 points on most nights.

“The definition of a point guard now is a little different (than it once was),” he said.

“I definitely see more points coming from the point guard spot than there used to be.

“The bigger the guard the better usually, but I think (Walker’s) got enough quickness, enough savvy, definitely enough basketball experience (to) get his shot off and still get the ball to the open man.”

It's funny though, Kelly said Knight is faster then Walker at running the floor and Walker is quicker with the ball in his hands. He also said that what they like about Knight over walker is his size and defense. When i saw the Jim Kelly interview tonight he looked and sounded more impressed with Knight. But like i said, if either is available at #5 we'll probably take him, if both are available i say they take Knight. I'd be happy with either of them at this point because beyond those two there isn't much left there for us to take.

Nope. I'd like to see them workout Lighty and maybe grab a 2nd round pick and take him if he's still available.

Super_Size_Swag 06-16-2011 11:43 AM

Im high on Lighty as well, would love to see the Raps make a move for a 2nd round pick.

Nice little article on Lighty:

Toney compares Lighty to Bruce Bowen, Raja Bell or Tony Allen, all good defenders and solid role players.

?Dave?s a better shooter than Tony Allen,? he said.

Lighty, 23, is always smiling.

?David has a quiet cockiness about him,? Toney said. ?You have to stir him up. Norris is cockier. He has a high motor.

?David is a consummate team player. He?s an exceptional athlete and defender. He?s got great size, quick feet and he?s strong. He can guard the ?1,? ?2? and ?3.? He?s going to compete and play hard. He can make a shot on you. (Lighty and Cole) are going to play 10 to 12 years in the league.?

Lighty appeared in 157 games at Ohio State, the most in NCAA history. He averaged 12.1 points, 4.0 rebounds and 3.3 assists as a senior.

Diebler, Lighty?s teammate at Ohio State, believes in the latter?s ability.

?The intangibles he can bring are something you can?t pass up,? he said. ?He can defend. He?s very explosive as an athlete. Each year at Ohio State, he improved his 3-point percentage. You can?t teach what he brings to the table. His ability to guard the ?1? through ?3,? and possibly some ?4? men, is going to be his ticket to the NBA.

?I think he?s going to surprise people with his offensive capabilities. He?s worked hard on his shot in the offseason. He?s improved every year. He?s a guy who is so athletic, he?s going to fit in well at the next level. I?m very happy for him. I?m confident a lot of teams will like him.?

ESPN draft analyst Jay Bilas said he?d take a chance on Lighty in the second round.

?He can guard,? he said. ?He?s got a good body. He knows how to play. He?s a guy that will come in and do the dirty work for you. He can guard multiple positions and is a good athlete, not great. He can make an open shot. He?ll come in and do no harm.?
