Default Kawhi Leonard Moving Up in Draft

Kawhi Leonard seems like an interesting prospect. Huge wingspan, big hands, and nbadraft.net has him moving up in the draft after the combine. They have us picking him at 5 at the moment. Seems to have a good character and have a good work ethic. Check this video:

I liked him earlier this year, like way earlier - when we were seeded lower in the lottery, and before we acquired James Johnson. I just don't see Leonard's ceiling eclipsing Johnson's by a substantial margin. On the other hand, it would be nice to have a couple big wing players that can defend multiple positions.

But we do
Johnson, Wright, Weems, Demar can guard multiple positions.
Leonard is not better than what we have (and for some reason try to dump)

If we draft a wing player he better have a proper range on his shot

Moves like a forward, body of a guard and length of a center

BC will definitely think about it
At #8 or #9 I would too

but Knight, Valanciunas, Kanter, Walker are better skilled AND fill a need

So do i.

I would take him before some project Center. BC has mentioned him a couple times so if Knight is gone i would say it's probably between, Walker/Leonard/Val

Kanter, Knight or Walker will be gone by #5. Which leaves one of the PG, Leonard, Val. At least that's what it looks like it'll shake down as.

Kawhi Leonard

After Irving, Williams, Kanter and Knight, the Raptors have few available options that can be regarded as potential fixtures at a specific position. Though Kemba Walker seems like a sensible choice, there's still some uncertainty surrounding his role at the next level. The Raptors might want to address the leak they have at the small forward position and fill it with cement, or a 6'7 forward with a 7'3 wingspan and hands that could grip a leather beach ball. Leonard has reportedly shot the ball extremely well during workouts, and has given teams little reason to doubt his effectiveness as a rebounder and defender. The Raptors need depth/talent at the 1, 3 and 4 positions. Considering the lack of point guard options after Irving and Knight, and the abundance of safer, lower-upside 4s, Leonard looks like the best fit from a needs and upside standpoint.

Nothing stopping us to resign them. Should be fairly cheap
But no, somehow we think that rookies will be better than experienced, not to mention athletic and talented good team players we already have.

Not like we need to renounce all our free agents to maximise cap space for free agents. Because it will only be ~MLE size. And last time we did that we got ourseves a Hedo while losing Marion, Parker and Humphries

leonard intrigued me until he tested with a 32 inch vert, maybe chalk it up to being cold.
seems to have kind of an ugly j, doubt he'll ever be mastering fadeaways but can he get a three?

whats intriguing is his arm length and all around size for his age(nba body already). Could he be that marion type SF that helps compensate for bargnani, very possible but i'm not convinced he's worth being 5th, not with an ugly jumper and an 32 inch vert. I do think his ceiling is higher than james johnson(in the nba 2-3 years younger) so if we do end up taking him i wouldn't be too pissed

I think the guys commenting on the combine alluded to Durant having a terrible vertical when he tested when they saw Leonard not doing so well there. It's something to look at more closely, but none of those results should be more important than what he shows on the court. Just a red flag - which is what you're saying more or less.

I would worry about him being picked to help compensate for BArgnani. I'm tired of seeing a rebuild that tries to work around a poor foundation. I would hope it would be a pick that shows a commitment to defense over offense as the basis of laying that foundation.

Have to agree with you we don't, we have Amir and Davis and one of the others can be resigned as a cheap third stringer. I'm probably thinking he meant the 5

Kawhi Leonard is one of 30 potential draft prospects -- including Maryland sophomore Jordan Williams – training in Las Vegas with Joe Abunassar at Impact Basketball.

He has been working hard on improving his ballhandling and his jumper by finding the proper balance on his release and landing.

“I want to do a lot of things on the court. I just want to be a complete basketball player. Dribble, pass, shoot, be a leader, play defense, block shots, steals. I’m trying to do it all,” Leonard said. “I think my comparison would be like to one of the throwback type of players. James Worthy, versatile, could do a lot of stuff on the court.”

As I said before, none of these players this year are short on confidence lol.

Well, picked at 15 and dealt to the Spurs

Barkley
thinks he is a starter in this league, and Chad Ford believes he is the steal of the draft

Could be. Great pick up by the Spurs. I think he's going to fit in nice with Gregg Popovich. He works tremendously hard and has great work ethic.

Yes, especially with his dedication to playing defense; Leonard has a lot of pride.

And I like that he tries to model his game after James Worthy

Quite refreshing, most kids want to be like Jordan/Kobe, etc.......

And like Worthy, he can play the 3 and 4 spots
