Ford: Raps interested in Biyombo, may trade down?

I hope not!

Sources say Raptors are seriously looking at Biyombo. He'll workout for them on Monday. Could take him at 5 or might move down a few spots

Why, only player in the draft who could immediately help the roster out and in an area of glaring weakness.

i've never watched him play. thing about african players is they're tall, long, and athletic but their hand-eye co-ordination isn't always there. does he have good hands?

'trane 06-18-2011 11:36 AM

woooot!

Last year we played our best basketball when bargniani was paired with reggie evans in the frontcourt. From what I understand about this guy he is like reggie with better defense and worse offense.

I don't get where he would fit in the rotation though. If he is going to come off the bench I don't see him having that big of an impact on the raptors D.

Of course. But I wouldn't trade down for him. I want a PG and then if we can get a 2nd pick I'd want Biyombo or Leonard for sure. I really hope that rumour of the #8 is true, though I have severe doubts about that.

I agree but that means Bargs will move back to PF and Davis is gone. Seems more like a smokescreen unless we trade down with Detroit....

I really cant see either of Knight and Walker changing the path of the franchise. I think at best either will start on a bad team or come off the bench on a good team.

He's coming over to work out for a few teams, including the Raps. Going up against Tristan Thompson in Detroit.

jj33 06-18-2011 12:01 PM

FUCK NO!!!!!! I give up on this.

jj33 06-18-2011 12:06 PM

I hate this Ford dude! He got us selecting euros, Vasely, Bismack (plays in Europe) and then he goes and say raptors do bad job by selecting euros coz they can't play D!!! Fuck you Ford, you know shit about talent!!

Again, Biyombo is the only guy in the draft that has the possibility of immediately impacting the team in an area of weakness(outside of Irving or Williams but neither improves defense)

I LOVE the idea of grabbing someone who can actually be a shot blocker/rebounder/defender at the center position.

F1nir_ 06-18-2011 12:57 PM

If u could Turn the 5th pick into a 7th and 10th pick to draft him +a PG it would be amazing

Did you watch his workout? He can't grab a ball. I am talking here about a soft pass, not a bullet pass. Thompson is better than this dude! He has hands of stone!

Neither could Shaq when he first came into the league. That can be taught.

As for drafting a PG....why? Beyond Irving and maybe, maybe Knight, the rest of the PG's are just back ups and we already have a young back up in Bayless.

Might as well draft at a position that is still a premium.

I wouldn't mind trading down if they're targeting Biyombo...

would
Toronto - 5th, TPE, Barbosa
Detroit - 8th, Hamilton and their 2nd rounder(#3x) that Raptors owed work?

i just watched and it was pretty brutal.. he couldn't score a bucket unless it was a dunk as well...

Same can be said for anyone outside the top 2. You really think Biyuombo is an NBA starter anytime soon if ever? I'd rather keep the #5 (PG) and make a deal to aquire a 7-8 pick, and then maybe take a chance on Biyombo but only if Leonard isn't there. Hell I'd rather take Leonard @#5 then Biyombo.

Blaze 06-18-2011 02:41 PM

This would be so stupid. Obviously are defense is horrible but were really drafting a rookie in hopes of changing that. Defense needs to be addressed through veterans and coaching.
