Default Embiid strongly considering not entering the draft

Quote:
Embiid has been researching big men lately. Not the way he used to, back when he was trying to learn the game and used tapes of Hakeem Olajuwon as video tutorials. No, he's been looking at the game's best and surveying their college tenures:Olajuwon, three years; Tim Duncan, four; Shaquille O'Neal, two.

"I was curious because I want to be great, I want to be the best at my position one day," he said. "I'm trying to learn everything and what other people did. All of the great big men went to college at least two or three years. I think it's a big factor. I don't know if it will always work, but I think it's the best choice."

April 30, 2014 - Joel Embiid has declared for the 2014 NBA draft.

Same story every year, guys find it a lot harder to pass the cash up when they're sitting on their asses after the tournament.

Jabari Parker also is leaning towards staying.

Like thought said though, all this is fine and dandy until May.

It's a shame, but it all boils down the the cash. His agent who's ready to charge it to the bank isn't going to tell him to stay in College if he's a guaranteed top 5 pick. There are also tons of other factors. He can basically make his family's lives secure financially, rather than waiting another year. Friends may be influencing his decisions too.

you aren't allowed to have an agent if you're in college so if he were to hire an agent his decision would have already been made up at that point.

and to Nites' point...interesting fact, but it doesn't really change much. I know Tristan Thompson comes from a decent family and he said the same thing. The cash, the fame, just the NBA in general, it's easier to say you're going to stay when the decision is still 5 months away.

Pretty much. Theres no way either of them arent in the draft this year. No one gives up that much guaranteed money in todays sports world, especially given past stories of athletes hurting themselves and never being the same again. and thus hurting, or killing their draft position the year after. Plus the fact that many guys who decided not to come out when they were at the top of their game ended up dropping the year after for a variety of reasons(who remembers Chris Taft?) It's not worth the risk.

No college players is going to come out in January and say

"I'm going to the draft after the year. That is where I am at right now."

Like thought said, it is the same stuff every year. Say the correct thing so it doesn't look like you're not focus on the team. Every player does it. When April gets here, lets see if he is saying the same thing. Most of the time, they're not.

I'm sure it doesn't stop any of these players, or their families from having a conversation with an agent, prior to officially signing with one.
