Draft Profile: Kendall Marshall

Surprised nobody talks about this kid more. I think he would be a great pick if we found a way to trade for a mid-1st rounder. He doesn't possess Derrick Rose or John Wall athleticism, but he plays smart and has good size for the point guard position. He'd be a great fit in Toronto, with Jose as his mentor.

NBA Comparison: Mark Jackson
Quote:

Strengths: A brilliant, "natural" floor general ... Understands how to control the flow of the game ... Makes his teammates better ... Has the height and offensive awareness to see the entire court at all times ... Always dribbles with his head up ... Rewards teammates when they run the court ... Makes throwing outlet passes look effortless ... Has a very advanced sense of timing ... Understands when to slow or speed up the tempo of the game ... A creative passer that also manages to be efficient ... Low turnover rate ... Operates equally well when running or playing in half-court sets ... Already knows the nuances of making good post-entry passes ... Can throw a highly accurate lob pass from anywhere on his team's half of the court ... Handles the basketball very well ... Wastes no movement and doesn't over-dribble (which is rare in young point guards) ... Is a good penetrator, despite his average speed ... Great reaction time and anticipation allows his to see plays before they develop ... Extremely high basketball IQ ... Smart defender that is capable of staying in front of his man ... Great size for a point guard, standing 6'4" ... Might be the best passer in the college game ...
Quote:

Weaknesses: Scoring ability is practically non-existent ... Is the type of player that could average more assists than points ... Doesn't nearly have the same kind of confidence creating for himself that he has creating for others ... Lacks the shooting ability to command respect from defenders when he is on the perimeter ... Doesn't get to the free throw line much, and isn't a comfortable shooter when he does get there ... Not an explosive athlete ... Average footspeed limits his defensive potential ...
Quote:

Overall: Kendall Marshall is a very talented point guard that is sure to arouse some interest in the first round ... If he can add a consistent jump-shot he'll be a quality starter because true floor generals are few and far between ...

Notes: Measured 6'4 (in shoes) 197 lbs, with a 6'4 wingspan at the 2011 Deron Williams Skills Academy.

If you expect to get a mid-first to pick him, its likely Jose would be leaving, therefor no Jose mentor ;)

Much better. ;)

But even if Jose left town, this Marshall kid could be the our next Calderon. :dancing:

They've already expressed to wanting to keep Barbs... He still may go, but its not looking likely. I hope he does though lol.

Wow! are you kidding me we need to trade for pick and draft him! This kid is like a young J.Kid, i really don't understand how some don't see the talent..

neojiphre 03-01-2012 08:59 PM

I do agree with some posts here that he seems to be a lot like Calderon. DO NOT TRADE for another pick for him unless it is very cheap

That writeup makes him sound like the next Earl Watson/Brevin Knight. If the guy isn't confident enough to score, he's not going to get opportunities to get big amounts of assists and opportunities for others due to the space he'll be given in the NBA.

You must be kidding? He can drive to the basket very well. Rondo can't shoot he has lot of assists, Rubio is not a good shooter, Kid was terrible shooter early in his career. Did you see this kid playing his court vision is amazing!

Im not that impressed...

I think everyone wants the raps to have a distributing PG, but this writeup makes him seem like a Jose who can't shoot. If he does have penetration abilities that makes him different than Jose, maybe like Rondo without the D. Although Casey's system can cover up and help any defensive problems he may have.

I take this analysis of him with a tank :giggle: of salt as this is the site that said that quincy miller would be drafted in the 2nd round and as of february 24th have him as the 30th pick in the draft going to Miami. Although they haven't done an update on marshall and how he's doing this year, nbadraftexpress is much much much better than nbadraft.net. As of March 1st, nbadraftexpress has him as the 18th pick in the first round.

nbadraft.net has MKG at 9th, nbadraftexpress has him at 3rd. Most people agree MKG goes top 5.

You didnt read my post. If the guy isnt confident in his abilities to score, and doesnt have a lot of scoring ability, teams will play off of him and go under screens taking away his penetration and thus his creativity and passing ability causing whatll likely be a stagnant offence.

If Marshall wants to make it in the pros, hes got to work on his jumper and shots off the dribble to compliment his passing game.

Wait, a player who likes to distribute but doesn't really score or penetrate, sounds like someone we know :cookie:

Kendall Marshall seems to be making a much more concerted effort the past month or so to look for his own offense. Great sign for UNC.
Not a bad sign.

Broken right wrist.

LOG 04-13-2012 05:50 PM

I still think he will be very good PG in the nba and I would be very happy if Raps somehow pick him up

rapsmannn 05-06-2012 04:21 AM

Love this guy. Under rated prospect wouldnt be surprised to see him move up draft boards. Theres guards who score a ton but don't affect winning where as this guy is a floor general and knows how to win

Toby 05-07-2012 06:07 AM

He's a good'n. This draft Forward heavy. The good guards will go very high.

LET'S GO RAPTORS!!!!! 05-09-2012 09:07 PM

Will he be M.Jackson-ish? Rondo-ish? or A.Miller-ish, either way, he should be a starting PG for many years.

DSWC 05-10-2012 01:41 AM

Things can change, but if we stay at 8, and no one dramatically drops (MKG, Beal, Barnes, etc.), I'm betting that Marshall is our pick.

If we DO end up signing Nash, who better to learn from, when your passing coming out of college is already elite. Having Nash as a mentor for 3 years could really help Marshall like it did for Dragic.

If we somehow don't get Nash (but I still think we do) Jose with his great assist/to ratio would be a good mentor for him too. Casey and Colangelo talked about pushing the ball a little more on offense, and Marahall's passing would accomplish that.
