Harrison Barnes (6-8 SF, North Carolina) was clearly the best player on the floor in terms of pro potential. Watching Barnes reminded me of the old Michael Wilbon line that Grant Hill's game was so smooth that he played as if he was wearing a tuxedo. I had the same sense about Barnes, who has a polished and fundamentally sound game, and is widely reported to be a high-character kid.

Barnes had 27 points, 7 rebounds, 2 steals and a block in 29 minutes in the Hoop Summit. He hit 9-17 FG, including 4-8 on threes, and 5-6 FT. Barnes displayed an explosive first step which made him difficult to stop on the drive (always to the right) and shooting range which went out to NBA distance on a clutch three in the fourth quarter.

Following on an outstanding co-MVP performance in the McDonald's game (17-5 on 7-10 FG), Barnes is a clear leader in the class of 2010 field, and I don't think it's premature to suggest that we may well be looking at the 2011-12 Rookie of the Year.

That said, the question "How good is Harrison Barnes?" is an open one in my mind. I am not convinced that Barnes has the ceiling of an NBA superstar. I see a guy who should be able to score in the 20s, and be a mid- to lower-tier All-Star. But I haven't seen much in the way of creating for others. He's certainly not a selfish kid; I just don't feel like court vision is a strength in his game. And while Barnes is a very good athlete, he doesn't strike me as a guy with off-the-charts physical gifts.

lol nobody talks about this kid

He has struggle with UNC this year but some players take some time to translate to the college game. Also some guys games fit better in the NBA then college.

He is a 6-8 SF with a 7-0 wingspan!

He has fallen in some people mock and if he does in the draft one team could be getting a huge steal.

TooStrong 01-22-2011 04:37 PM

He's been disappointing.

Someguy again 01-24-2011 10:21 PM

I think he will be a great pro raps should pick him if he is still there.

DonMughal 01-27-2011 01:01 AM

Why is rebound there twice?

RaptorsandBuckeye FaN 01-27-2011 02:31 AM

Barnes hit a clutch 3 for UNC tonight. Tied at 71-71 Barnes hit the GW 3 with about 6seconds left. Was 2-5 from 3 and finish with 13points 3rebounds 2stl in 24min.

Barnes came to play. Had 12points on 5/6 shooting in the first 8min of the game.

Someguy again 01-29-2011 04:03 PM

dude went off

finstock 01-29-2011 04:06 PM

He's was all over the place, especially in the first half. On the glass, chasing loose balls, knocking down shots, you name it. Impressive performance. Henson looks like a nice prospect as well. Very much in the mold of Special Ed.

RaptorsandBuckeye FaN 01-29-2011 04:38 PM

Could be the breaking out game he needed!

Like oneironaught said he was everywhere. One play he threw the pass up for a alley oop. Was a nice pass but other player missed the shot, ball bounce away and Barnes out-hustle 2 NC State players to get the ball. That is what you like to see..the small plays that don't always fully show in the box score.

Someguy again 01-29-2011 04:44 PM
