Let me tell you something from following college BB and Ohio State BB. Players during the season will say all the right things. I want to leave my mark, I want to get my degree, I want to leave a legacy, I want to win a championship, I am coming back, etc.

Then they go pro. Once they see how much $$$ is being thrown at them it is a whole different ball game. This year could be different with the lockout talk though. It would be great for the college BB if he came back but you just gotta wait and see.

Don't shoot the messenger here, I'm just quoting.

Personally, I know that a lot of players say all the right things, and are swept away by the feelings of living in the present, by being in this tournament, but then once it's all done, they get (mostly) the advice from their agents telling them to go for the $.

Also, a lot of these questions (and where we get our quotes from) are set up by reporters from local schools to make it almost assured that the players answer the question in a form that makes it sound like they're going back to school.

I just think it makes for interesting discussion right now, as we're in a high draft position, and there HAS been murmuring about some prospects returning to school with the proposition of the lockout.

hahaha...nbd man, I assumed you didn't mean it like that, or anything - it's hard to tell "tone" on here too.

It's just a trend on message boards where people respond to posters like THEY wrote the article.

i've never understood why NCAA basketball players lose their eligibility when they enter the draft, yet NCAA hockey players don't. if a players enters the draft without signing an agent, there really shouldn't be an issue with eligibility until a contract with an agent, endorsement or team is agreed upon. it would be completely ideal for second rounders and extremely beneficial when seasons are endangered with eventual lock-outs.

as for barnes and him returning to school, until they declare, someone will always write 'he might not'. it gets them internet hits. staying in longer risks the possibility of peaking, being exposed of major weaknesses and the thought of injury and lack of security. freshmen with a stock that is that high, you don't bypass it. you enter the draft and become a toronto raptor. please?

btw i understand that the drafts are completely different from one another, it's just that NHL and MLB teams own college players rights. i don't see why it should be any different for the other two major college sports.

I can actually see some college players, figuring that a lengthy lockout is inevitable, staying in school for another season - what's the point of losing NCAA eligibility and not getting paid?

why don't the guys in that entered the NFL draft pull out then? They have a strike right now and they knew it was likely to happen

good choice for him. definitely has NBA tools and a next-level defensive game but his post-up needs some work and his jumpshot will have to improve.

Barnes 3 point shooting not good so far this year, just 3-11 but in 4games he has been very consistent in everything else:

17PPG 4.8RPG 50% shooting.

Barnes Leaves Arena On Crutches
Nov 27, 2011 2:28 AM EST

Harrison Barnes left Orleans Arena on crutches following North Carolina's 90-80 loss to UNLV.

Barnes rolled his right ankle late in the first half. He came out of the game for several minutes before eventually returning to the game.

A team spokesman said the crutches were a precautionary measure.
