Default Draft Profile: Brandon Knight

Born: December 2, 1992
From: Miami, Florida
University: Kentucky

Height: 6'3"
Weight: 195 lbs
Position: Point Guard

Quote:
Strengths: Big point guard with excellent size and speed and scoring ability … Extremely fast player who excels pushing the ball up the court …. Has a tremendous first step to get by opponents off the dribble … Strong one on one player … Excellent at driving to the basket, good body control, and a quality finisher on the move … Very creative passer … Quick decision maker … A fierce competitor, really steps his level of play up in big situations …
Quote:
Weaknesses: A solid athlete but not a huge leaper … At times tries to force the issue offensively instead of taking what the defense gives him … Will need to improve on his floater in the lane. Many of his scoring opportunities in high school came from getting by his man and all the way to the rim where he rarely got challenged. He’ll have more to deal with on the college and NBA levels …
Brandon Knight | NBADraft.net

Quote:
Knight cited the success young point guards have enjoyed in Calipari's "dribble-drive" offense -- namely Wall and current NBA stars Derrick Rose and Tyreke Evans -- as a major factor in his decision.

"The things that's done with previous players ... I think that's what entices a lot of players with that situation," Knight said.

As a senior, Knight contributed 31.9 points, 8.6 rebounds and 4 assists for Pine Crest (25-5), which lost in the Florida 3A final after winning the previous two state crowns. He finished his career as Broward County's all-time leading scorer with 3,515 points, which is second all-time in Florida. That production earned him Gatorade National Player of the Year honors for the second consecutive season.
Brandon Knight, one of nation's prized recruits, added to Kentucky Wildcats' 2010 class - ESPN

Quote:
January, 2010: Brandon is a scoring combo guard. He is being recruited by everyone as a point guard but the thing he does best is score. He is a streaky shooter with range to 22 feet. When he gets hot he can run off a bunch in a row. He is good off the dribble (mostly with right hand) and is also effective catching and shooting. He is more of a volume scorer though - meaning he needs a lot of shots in order to get his points. He is an extreme competitor and is a player that wants to take (and generally make) the last shot - as he did here at the Flyin' to the Hoop Invitational. He can dribble drive into the lane and hit floater and pull ups. He has the entire arsenal offensively. He can be a very good defender when needed. He has solid length and is an above average athlete. Again, his competitiveness can come into play here. He is a good rebounder for his position and can push the ball once he secures the rebound. Brandon is one of the top talents in the 2010 class.
Brandon Knight 2010 Basketball Recruiting Profile - ESPN

Quote:
It seems like every year college basketball gets a player that takes the air out of the gym. This year you have John Wall; next year you’ll have Brandon Knight. High school senior Brandon Knight is a 6-3 183 pound point guard that is touted as the No. 1 overall point guard in the nation.

...

The Good

Brandon is a very athletic guard that can play both positions. Great off the dribble scorer, he is dangerous because he can get to the rim, pull up and shoot or make the smart decision of dishing it out and creating offense for teammates. Solid defensive presence, can come out of nowhere for the block on the weak side.

He is a high motor man, that doesn’t slack off on any opponent. Great ball handling skills, good vision, and great shooter that’s equipped with a high basketball I.Q. Brandon has a 4.28 grade point average at one of the toughest private schools; which assures you he is serious about both school and basketball.

Most definitely has the potential to succeed as an NCAA and NBA guard.

The Bad

Many question Knight’s ability to play point guard in college. Brandon does a lot of dribbling in half court, lacks explosiveness, a thin player with sub-par athleticism. Brandon is too right hand dominant; he rarely uses his left hand when going up.

Can be a little ball-hungry at times, and doesn’t possess the passing skills needed to be elite.

Brandon Knight turns the ball over 2.3 times his senior season so far.

extremely intelligent in school makes him much more valuable on the court, sleeper of the draft unless he gets vaulted to lottery range

I think he'll be a lottery lock. Especially with Irving's injury.

He's ranked at 7 at NBADraft.net, 19 at DraftExpress.com, and 16 on ESPN Chad Ford's top 100.

He's not locked as a lottery pick, but has potential to reach there.

its possible we could end up with him,

it all depends on who the kings take, I know its way to early to predict but I think both teams wants to take a PG or SF, so one of these teams could end up with Kyrie Irving, Brandon Knight, or Harrison Barnes

Seems like a grounded dude, but I'm not sold on his ability to run a team. I see him more as a combo guard a la Louis Williams.

I'm beginning to really like this guy. He's clutch, explosive, fast, can stop on a dime and is fairly big (6ft 3 or 4) and young. He is still raw but he has a lot of potential. I'd love if you could move down and pick him up and another draft pick. Sorta reminds of Holiday but with more athleticism and polish.

Credit for idea of comparing him to Holiday goes to NBADraft.net http://www.nbadraft.net/ncaa-tourney-stock-watch | Great comparison.

Starting to believe he can be a decent floor general at the next level. He has a great feel for the game, and not mention, more than adequate smarts. I think he'd be a sweet fit beside Tyreke in Sac Town/Anaheim.

Watch as he gets back and contests the three after hitting the game winner:

I've watch quite a bit of his games and I really like Brandon Knight game. He has been risen on a lot of draft boards and could be a good PG in the NBA. Depending on where we pick he should be on our board if he declares. That is if we fall a little in the draft on lottery night.

He is better than Kemba Walker in all aspects
Younger, bigger, more PG skills, better shooter, clutch and hard worker

Can't pass on him!
