Default Do the Raptors draft a Canadian on draft night?

Simple question -

the Raps have a first rounder (yet to be determined), and the 37th and 56th pick (both in the second round) in this upcoming draft.

While I don't think we'll stretch for a Canadian with the first pick, there are a couple of players that could be in play with our 2nd rounders.

-Kris Joseph
-Robert Sacre

So, do we pick one of those players during the draft, or not?

BC wanted to acquire a second pick last year to grab Cory Joesph. Maybe he'll grab Kris Joseph since he's a 3.

Wow cant believe none of you guys remembered about Nicholson from St Bonaventure. If hes available in the 2nd round I'd take him for sure

I agree with this, but 2nd round draft picks are a crapshoot at best. The majority don't end up in the NBA.

I think we'll take BPA, but maybe around those ranges, a Canadian is in those picks, or a pick or two away, and maybe them being Canadian gives them an advantage.

I can see Sacre being a late 2nd (if he's still on the board), even though I don't think he'd match up well -due to his horrible rebounding- with Bargnani.

I wonder if us (maybe/probably) signing Nash has anything to do with maybe picking a Canadian too?

I think that Andrew Nicholson is gone by the 37th pick.

joseph makes sense, we need depth at the 3, and a 4 yr college player from a decent program is a plus

but these dudes aren't even from ontario, right? Vancouver is so far away from toronto, do they rush home from work in BC to watch Raptors games?

Yes.

Being Canadian should have absolutely no bearing on if they get drafted by us. I am not a Joseph or Nicholson fan. Sacre is even worse, I don't know if he'll be drafted.

I watched a lot of Joseph and he has really matured over the years at Syracuse. Personally I'd like the Raps to take him. Who knows what he'll end up most likely just another average player but you take your chances in the 2nd round

I only watched him a few games each season, but he never really impressed me. I don't think he's terrible but I just don't see the potential to be worth the pick. I'd love to be wrong on that though.

One thing I like about Joseph is that he is a leader with a fantastic attitude. He could be a Mateen Cleaves type but really u take ur chances in the 2nd round

Burke takes Americans.

I agree though I'd like a Canadian on the team and think Joseph is worth a 2nd

with all the Canucks in the draft and 2 seconders, why not? it should be a tradition carried on moving forward now that Magloire became the first...just like a coach who is able to speak French if they want to coach the Habs...Kris Joseph
