BREAKING: I was told by a trusted league source today at NBA Draft media day that Bismack Biyombo has a medical red flag with his back.

If Biyombo slips past 9, he could easily slide to 19, or even further, a la DeJuan Blair when he had his medical red flag.

The source said they still expect Biyombo to be drafted either at 8 by the Pistons or 9 by the Bobcats, despite the back issue.

Colangelo tonight on Biyombo

Colangelo said. “Someone is going to get a very good player there. We’re looking at the health and making sure everything is good there and we’ll look at the background stuff, but he’s a guy I think we have to have in that group at No. 5. "

If true i feel bad for him, but it makes me happy.

meh.... teams at 5-10 will pay guys to print that shit. It's all fodder to try to scare guys outta the pick they want

Bismack Biyombo impressive in final predraft workout

snippet...
"I guess the biggest thing that surprised me was his offense," Silas said after the workout. "People said he had no offense at all and I saw a lot of offense today. Shooting his FTs, I told him just to follow through. He followed through and made two free throws right away."

There are definitely some gaming opportunities for GMs to use the Media to their own end. They have a relationship that can be mutually beneficial.

Although writing that a draft pick is hurt with no real proof to base it on could in theory cost him millions of dollars and if it was a writer of note, you can imagine he and his publisher would be settling a libel case out of court.

with BS like this I wouldn't be upset if we pick this guy. I mean - if he didn't have much perceived value, then why would some knob bother to put this garbage out there?

Naj_Irban 06-23-2011 09:16 AM

Those rims look low as hell! Maybe because he has apeman arms. Goodness gracious

Not if he only "speculates"

;)

Jesus he's a bit of a freak isn't he. Holds the ball low though, which is pretty much lights out in the NBA, turnovers a plenty.

Can Toronto Afford a project at this point? It's hard to say, the whole risk reward thing is a real bitch. But, you look at how the guy can finish, how he plays above the rim (for real, not how they describe guys like Kobe or Derozan... this guy is "Dwight Howard" above the rim) You can't help but wonder what he may be able to work into. Maybe you take him and then keep Bargnani until you have a better idea what he can be. If he can be a beast with more than average scoring ability, put him beside Davis and watch what happens.

My problem with guy like this (D12 included) is that they have one dimension. You lose an extra pass, and an extra skill guy to actually play the game. But you gain a force for intangibles.....

Tough call man.

Shadowfax 06-23-2011 10:25 AM

still think we need a PG but Bismark is still a pretty impressive second option...18 yrs old and 245 lbs ?...you pack another 30 lbs on that frame in the next couple of years (with his 7.7 wingspan) and he'll be a fucking force down the middle
pair him up with a "Casey" defensive system and i think you've got a winning combo

Superjudge 06-23-2011 10:27 AM

;)

I was kinda thinking the same thing. But with him, you absolutely need vets on the perimeter. Maybe if he is good, you trade bargs.... for a really nice vet PG.

Parker?

Only way to get Parker is with the 5th pick - catch-22 there.

i don't think AB is going anywhere this year...if he doesn't get better defensively with Casey at the helm THEN you get rid of him imo

but the thought of having a defensive "specialist" in Bismark paired up with AB is intriguing...and at the offensive end as well
i'm just picturing Bismark deep in the paint with his arms up ready to receive the ball...simple hook shot or feed it back out to a 7' 3pt specialist

a Bismark scenario at center for this team has possibilities

dfunkie1 06-23-2011 10:52 AM

with us having a possible strong three man rotation between davis, amir and bargs, it might be an ideal place for him to develop his offensive game and defensive timing. i just hope the expectations for this kid are realistic. he's 18 and extremely raw. he's not going to be ben wallace for a while.

if we do indeed pick Bismark, then out of those 3 i would say Amir is the odd man out at this point
