Bismack Biyombo/World vs USA Game

Quote:

Bismack Biyombo's triple-double in the Nike Hoop Summit increased his already growing momentum heading into the 2011 NBA Draft.

"He runs the floor, he defends and he's cat-quick,'' said an NBA scout of Biyombo. "His offensive skills need to be developed, but his athleticism screams out.''

"He's Ben Wallace, basically,'' said another NBA executive.

A half-dozen NBA scouts and executives told Sports Illustrated that they had concerns if he was older than his listed age of 18. Biyombo is physically more mature and also exhibited leadership skills to suggest he is older than his age.

He began his professional career in Yemen in 2009, and then moved to the Spanish fourth division in 2009-10. He quickly worked his way up to Spain's ACB, the top national league in Europe, where he is currently averaging 6.4 points, 5.1 rebounds and 2.3 blocks in 14 games with the club Fuenlabrada.

"The way I play here, I play everywhere,'' he said following the Hoop Summit. "In the ACB I play with a lot of smart guys, I play with a lot of strong guys, and when I step on the court I just want to kill them.''

His favorite players are Kevin Garnett and Kevin Love.

"Kevin Garnett is intense player -- every time he's not on the floor, his team is missing him,'' said Biyombo. "I want to (play) defense as a team. I want to help everybody on my team and I want to win the game ... That's what I heard from my first coach, that the good offense is defense. If I block a lot of shots then it's good offense. If I get a lot of rebounds, then it's good offense.''

Yes, very intriguing indeed.

Yes, very intriguing.

Know what could be cool? If we end up with 3rd/4th, and the player we want is off of the board, maybe we could make a trade with Utah (who owns NJ's pick) for the 6th and 12th... We could pick up Kemba (some people's objection is that 3r/4th may be too high, but a few picks lower could warrant his selection), and take a flier on somebody like Biyombo. We could address two needs in one draft.

wow, didnt know the coach at ryerson coached the canada team, kinda surprising. but for bismack, hes got a lot of developing to do

RaptorsFan4Life 04-20-2011 06:46 AM

Draft express moved him from #18 to #6. They have up picking Jones V at 3 but I think we should get this guy over Jones V.

He can develop that. His instincts and defensive effort make him worth it alone.

I really like him. He may be a stretch top 3, but if he really is only 18, I wouldn't write him off. His measurements are very similar to Dwight when he was drafted, but BB has an even longer wingspan - if he's in the building he has a chance to block a shot or grab a board. His intangibles score high as well. He has a good motor, and is routinely the loudest guy on the court. Defensive anchor gold!

And let's not forget that he plays in one of the top leagues in the world - ACB, which he leads in blocked shots while playing only 17min per game. So it's not like he's solely dominating peers, but rather grown men, already.

So he's baically this years DaJuan Blair. Who was a steal at 37th pick, but not in lottery!

Blair slipped because he has no ligaments in his knees. I don't see Bismack falling out of the lottery or even going below 12.

7-7 wingspan .. jesus christ, that is incredible. If he comes onto this team he could easily play center, and he could play it very very well. Him and Ed Davis would be a great front court. Since he is being compared to Ben Wallace that means his offensive game is a work in progress, which is why we need a dominant guard at the 1 & 2. DeRozan is a dominant guard, but Calderon is not. Guys that come into mind are Tyreke Evans, Derrick Rose, Russell Westbrook, etc.. all are labeled as 'combo' guards, and if we draft this guy we will definitely need a combo guard.

Don Vito 05-22-2011 02:33 PM

So I heard he was introduced to basketball in high school.. and 2 weeks later he was on the national team. WTF... what a beast, I really hope we draft this guy. Bismack > Jonas, Kanter.

rapsmannn 05-23-2011 05:11 AM

i have to say thsi draft is starting to look a little better

after doing some internet research that usually amounts to nothing because its so hard to predict who going to be the better pro considering the factors about going to the right team, skill, development etc..

players i decided that i wouldn't mind seen drafted to the raptors

jan vesely
tristian thompson
brandon knight
bismack biyombo
