Are you worried about James Johnson

It seems like alot of people fall in love with a SF then he ends up being bad. In recent history I can name Joey Graham, Jamario Moon and Sonny Weems. I remember questioning the Boris Diaw trade because I actually wanted Weems to start, that is how hyped he was to alot of people. I'm worried James Johnson might turn out like those three, but hopefully not. Its just a risky situation we've been in multiple times before. Are you worried about James Johnson or do you have faith?

Blaze 05-02-2011 05:37 PM

I trust Bayless at the one more than I trust Johnson at the three if that's what you mean.

GrannyFro 05-02-2011 05:46 PM

if he learns to shoot he'll be alright, but he was an older rookie and going on third year time is ticking. His shot will decide whether he's a starter or just another bench turd, seems to have the rest of he game down

maybe he's a little greedy at times but that will be forgivable if he sticks shots

LX 05-02-2011 05:47 PM

Right now he looks like he could become a very nice guy coming off the bench as a facilitator, and hopefully a strong defender. I think more than any previous examples, he can become a good fit, but that won't be the case if he's forced into too big of a role.

RAPMAN 05-02-2011 05:49 PM

James Johnson is a good role player. If this team was stacked at the other positions, then James Johnson would be a good complementary starter. But this team is desperate for some star talent in alot of positions. If the Arizona kid is still availabe in the draft, bye, bye James Johnson.

Admiral 05-02-2011 07:25 PM

either way he's already shown himself to be better than all those 3 guys combined

Aamir 05-02-2011 09:49 PM

Not by the way he plays. Everyone was in love with Sonny before he sucked because he was a pretty good mid-range jump shooter and a great dunker. James Johnson plays hard defence and is very versatile. He can pad stats in every category.

jeffb 05-02-2011 09:53 PM

As of now he's a good bench player on a good team. IMO he's not the answer as our starting 3 as much as i like him. But i'm willing to have him as our starting SF to start next season as long as our PG/C positions are addressed. I do think that Weems is as good as gone and another depth SF will be brought in if one isn't drafted, since Kleiza likely won't be ready to start the season.

Barracuda 05-02-2011 10:07 PM

I have faith in my NinjaRaptor.

js12 05-02-2011 10:17 PM

I'm a little bit worried. James Johnson does occasionally take ill-advised shots and do too much. Didn't we see a bit of the same from Sonny Weems?

I think JJ can be a really good defender in the league, but time will tell if he stays disciplined.

JoeyJoJo Shabbadu 05-03-2011 12:28 AM

James Johnson's potential equals +- Shane Battier at best IMO. He will not be a superstar but could be good. Maybe people need to drink a little less of the kool-aid around here when we get a new face.

LJkAze 05-03-2011 01:16 AM

I dont think everyone should worry about James Johnson because Alex English is working with him in the summer. A good example is look how well Amir had become shooting.

carp 05-03-2011 01:28 AM

I'm not worried about James Johnson... I hear he's training with Steven Seagal.

Weems isn't a SF, he's a SG. When they actually play him at his position he's pretty good.

Interesting point. He`s too small to play 3. At 2 he has a post option. I think Sonny just needs confidence back. If Barbosa is gone, Sonny`s play will improve.

Naj_Irban 05-03-2011 09:21 AM

I`m not worried about JJ. He can ball. He just can`t shoot it yet.

Renihan_00 05-03-2011 10:31 AM

JJ needs to work on his control of the ball too because he tends to throw it away

I love the way he pushes the ball though

I have actually thought about this for e couple of days... I actually don't know why everyone is so in love with this guy. He is OK. But often it sounds like people think he will become our franchise player. I don't know about this guy... I'd rather have a healthy Kleiza starting.

I think a good comp for Johnson would be Shawn Marion. He doesn't have 3-pt. range like he used to but he can shoot from mid-range, and he's a good rebounder and defender. DAL starts him at SF and uses him as the backup PF when they go small, and they've had him guarding anyone from Aldridge to Wallace to Kobe to Roy during these playoffs. I think if Johnson develops a 10-footer, he has the D and the strength and agility to become well-rounded like Marion.
