![]() I'm excited for him. He was pretty comfortable in the post during the playoffs which was definitely nice to see. Can't hurt to learn something from the dream.
He just needs to get rid of that garbage pump fake... |

![]() Pumpfake aside, he has only one legit post move right now, namely the right hook from left baseline.
He's got the length and motor to will his way to the basket, but has to work on that footwork and tighten those handles to dominate inside. Hakeem was also one of the most dominate shot blockers of all time, if he can learn a thing or two about low post positioning and how to react better defensively he can be a real asset to the Raptors next season on both ends of the court. There's much room to groom JV while he's still so young regarding pump fakes, the whole idea behind those types of actions is to create more space for higher percentage shots by keeping the defenders off balance & keeping the defenders guessing. He really needs to hit that shot consistently or nobody will be fooled by that. The Dream was a maestro at keeping post defenders off balance and scoring at will with an arsenal of post moves. I'm sure he will get a few ideas on how to improve this aspect of his game next season. Last edited by fantapoppa; 05-15-2014 at 04:04 PM. |

![]() A pump fake is a solid move, however, not in the way he has employed it as of late. He relies on it way to much when he is put in ISO just outside the post that it becomes too predictable. The pump fake has too come off much more naturally then his rigid stance. He needs to time them way better. And once he pump fakes, he can't keep going back to that move in the same play which is so frustrating to watch, I've seen it too many times when he pumps 3 times, I just don't see that as a smart move.
And of course, a pump fake depends on a proper amount of makes for the defence to respect him but he tends to be always hesitant and defers to demar and Lowry. |

![]() His hook shot is already quite good, especially the sweeping hook across the lane from the left block.
He just needs to improve on his footwork in the post when backing down to create easier shots with less dribbles. Hakeems the master at the face up, 1-2 dribble move to create space move to lead into a variety of different shots depending on how he's played. Hopefully JV comes back next year with a killer drop step, and an unstoppable right shoulder fade away. Having the consistent hook going to the middle, and the fadeaway turning baseline turning over his right shoulder will make him a true monster, when you factor in that he will still get his regular points with rolls to the rim, and offensive rebounds. And then, its up to Casey to utilize him more, and up his usage, which better damn well happen next year. If we actually used him consistently on offence for the entire series, we would have beaten Brooklyn in 5-6 games. The fact that he shot 63% from the floor and only took 7 attempts per game is a travesty. |

![]() Our offensive system just sucks in general.
They need to overhaul it so that we aren't just doing high elblow pick and rolls that result in a guard taking a long range jumper. Jonas needs to be deliberately involved, screen and rolls need to have more purpose, players need to be cutting towards the basket, etc Jonas has basically 2 plays set called for him every game, his other points come from scrapping for the basketball. This shouldn't happen as he is our best (or will be) our best low post player. We struggled to get points in the paint vs Brooklyn because we settled for too many low percentage shots. We didn't have any reliable 3 pt shooting either, that didn't stop em from keep taking them rather than posting up JV This can't happen for a team looking to goto ECF Saw some good things with Amir in the 1st qtr of game 7, that needs to be a norm with our bigman not an exception Last edited by fantapoppa; 05-17-2014 at 03:24 PM. |

![]() our offense is not pretty, but it's efficient
the playoffs are not indicative because amir was injured, bkn's defense was pretty good and they're particularly good at stopping wings. JV sucked balls for half the season, he got enough opportunities and wasn't able to do much with them. Any half-decent center could easily contain JV. He was a lot better the last month or so, but he needs to add a lot more strength before he can become a force on offense. the truth is, he just wasn't that good last season and didn't deserve more usage. |

![]() I still contend that he spent ¾ of a season working on getting stronger, to the point where he didn't have much left for the games a lot of the time. He came a long ways, and by the end of the season we got a peak at the kind of impact he can have in the future. Not much to complain about really.

![]() I like JVs development so far. I'm more pressed to see something more from Ross. It would be amazing to see him add more strength, more so than JV, as I think JV needs to figure that proper balance between mobility and a added muscle.
If Ross can even reach demar's muscle mass watch out, I think it really help him handle 3s better. Point is both of our sophomores really need to improve |
