TJ is man enough to understand this, the bench players will love him and everybody will be happy. I think not even the most rabid TJ fan (yes SWAN, you ) would content that TJ is a significant upgrade over Jose.

Next season is a different story - it will be up for grabs probably.
Hey if we get in a real groove and start winning against some good teams then i'm all for leaving the chemistry the way it is...i'm for the Raptors before i'm for TJ...let's get that straight Let's not forget though we're only 5 games over 500..not like we're world beaters and one lineup tinker will cause it to crash and burn

And there are two ways to look at assists to turnovers(which TJ's numbers aren't bad btw).... yes Jose takes control of the ball but he's also too passive sometimes...lately he's been getting better and lately he's made more turnovers but in an uptempo offense you have to make difficult passes and TJ is a bit better at this(i.e. that first pass to Kapono he made on monday).

Not knocking Jose ..i love his game but saying he's far better at distributing than TJ is not fair or accurate.
Jose may be a bit too passive at times but he's averaging WAY more assists, more assists per 48, and considerably more as a starter (10 vs 6.6).

So even if he's by your standards too passive, he's still getting the ball in guys' hands more often, and leading the league in assists to turnovers.

He's also, for the first time ever in his career, a major 3 point threat, which is VERY important and an underrated factor as well. 53% FG, 44.5% 3pt, 91.6% FT, 12.4 pts, 8.7 assists 1.55 TO's is why Calderon should be starting for the rest of the season. He's playing super efficient ball, keeping our offense in synch.

We shouldn't fuck with that right now IMO.
--------------

We are on a pretty good streak: 5 over .500 and have been playing with no PG back. And TJ's defense is overrated; he can't control big guards posting him up and hasn't gotten under guards' skins like in the past so far this season.

sure, we're "only" 5 games over .500, but we had:

1. a tough schedule
2. injury problems

Having to play without TJ hurt us a lot, because it killed our second unit, especially kapono who is so dependent on a good point guard.

The next 11 games, apparently the combined percentage of 8 of our opponents is around .350, which means we have good chances of going 10 games over .500 by the end of this month/early march. If we manage to play .500 the rest of the way (with a tough schedule), we'll end up with 51 wins - which is in the very upper range of most expectations.

and btw, hollinger's power rankings have us at #6 in the whole league, which should make it obvious just how difficult our schedule really was until now.

As a self admitted Jose fan, its not even a real question to me, TJ is great, but he isnt a pure PG, he is kind of like his buddy AI, i mean he can play the point, but he can also sink your team with poor decision making at times (go rewatch last years playoff series with NJ and tell me TJ didnt make some horrible choices at times).

Hmmm Jose is shooting 40%+ from 3 land, 50% from the floor and 90%+ from the line.... only 1 other player can say that... and i believe he has been MVP a few times (hello Kid Canada).

On top of that he is LEADING THE ENTIRE LEAGUE in turnover to assist ratio (which to me is the most important stat for a PG).

Now i love Ford, he is creative, fast as hell and a matchup prob for alot of teams, but i love him more off the bench or maybe playing the SG position at times with Jose on the floor. He is injury prone and can hurt your team in as many ways as he helps it.

As far as Jose being passive at times, his shot as improved so greatly, you can tell he is working so hard, give it time, as they sink he is getting more offensive rhythm and looking for his shot more, the key is to keep giving him big minutes and watchin him grow, hell the guy is only 25!!

To end with a little controversey, not only would i start Jose over a healthy TJ, i would look to get TJ alot of min when he is very healthy to up his trading value to make some cap room for Jose and get us some bigman help and a serviceable backup who can live with 10-15 a game as Jose becomes a top 3 PG in the world (imo he is already top 5, if u replace a top 5 PG with TJ i think your nuts!!!).

I like the idea of using them both depending upon the opponent, or who may be feeling better. So for the foreseeable future it will be Jose.

What worries me about Ford is that his style, to me, isn't disciplined enough for the Playoffs. Jose is very carefull with the ball on very possesion.

What worries me about Jose is that in a scenario where we absolutely need instant offense, he can't always create that, Ford can score six points in 20 seconds.

It's a delightful dilemma to have. It really is.

I say start whoever you need to in order to keep team chemistry positive in the room. If that means stroking Tj's ego, then so be it, just make sure the minutes are spread evenly, Jose rotting on the bench ain't gonna cut it.

For the here and now, Tj, should be happy with limited minutes and a bench role anyhow, and according to Sam, that is exactly what he's gonna get.

Nice balanced post SJ...good stuff. I think for this season you're right...it's pretty much a win-win. I dont' know if next year will be the same...whether one of these guys is willing to play second fiddle on a more permanent basis...time will tell and as i've eluded to in the past, handling this situation will be BC's legacy in his early tenure with the Raps.

...further to that, picking the right one to keep will be his real legacy as far as the PG position is concerned.

Complimenting SJ is bad for Karma....let TJ start showcase his ass, and move him.

You know who would love TJ now, a competing team - somebody that is not worried about his future. Problem is, it will be hard to get good value from a contender. How about TJ for Varejao?

Not to mention hes' not a vet and has a big contract for which he's just at the beginning.

As for TJ for Varejao...a potential future all star pg for an athletic offensively useless freak? Uh..no

It'great to see TJ Ford back with the team after that awful fall in Atlanta. However I can't help but notice how much bigger and stronger TJ is now compared to when he got injuried. It'seems very strange that in a short period of time he has been able to bulk up so fast. He really nevered did to much after the fall but rest then after that time he worked out hard in Texas. Hell we all heard about Bargnani and his training in the summer however his look is nothing compared to how TJ looks now. I wonder if he took any sport supplements to help build up his body ?

BODY OF WORK

Those who have followed the Raptors on a daily basis can't help but notice T.J. Ford's upper body.

Hell, we could do a rotational thing as well, like in baseball with starting pitchers. If we think a guy matches up better against a certain team, start and play him more. This way you're utilizing the strengths of this team to its advantage. Again just an idea.

I never said steroids I said supplements there is a differance. I have read a few articles and everyone seems to mention how much bigger he is now. He was not out that long. He was resting for a while before he started his work outs. Just looks alittle suspicious thats all. Man you hear it all the time in baseball I work really hard ?
