Default Yahoo: NBA free agency’s winners and losers

Quote:
Winners:

• Joe Dumars and Bryan Colangelo

This was the summer to get the most out of your money in free agency, and the GMs of the Detroit Pistons and Toronto Raptors understood that waiting for 2010 wasn’t the wisest move.

Dumars gets a terrific young core with free agents Ben Gordon and Charlie Villanueva and can still use Prince or Richard Hamilton as chips for a frontline big man. Utah’s Carlos Boozer still lingers as a possibility, though Dumars has so far been reluctant to part with Prince for him.

Colangelo stole Turkoglu out of Portland’s clutches, and then worked a sign-and-trade with Orlando to spare his mid-level exception. Colangelo won’t give up on convincing Chris Bosh to stay with Toronto.

Pretty fair assessment, BC is really getting a lot of love this off-season from the media.

Ever since drafting Darko with #2, Dumars has been steadily declining as a GM. Signing Gordon to play on a team with Stuckey and Hamilton and "replacing" Wallace and McDyess with CV? Hmm...

Gordon @ 11Mil/yr

CV @ 7Mil/yr

I can't understand all the love for detroit. They have a horrible team now, if they get 30 wins I'd be shocked. I mean, their starting lineup right now is stuckey, gordon, prince, villanueva and kwame brown???

Add in hiring/firing Curry, lying to your star players and then trading away the heart and soul of your team to save money.

Detriot=rebuild mode. hard to believe they were one of the best teams in the league couple years back. What happened?

I think they just had the perfect pieces, chemistry, and work ethic back when they won/were getting deep in the playoffs. Trading away Billups was by far their worst move, but they missed Big Ben's defense and things just kinda went downhill from there. Billups, Rip, Prince, Sheed, and Big Ben were a great starting 5 though.

A couple bad moves and an aging roster.

That Billups deal sped up the rebuild process big time.

Detroit is going to go from allowing 90 points a game to 110

if Detroit is re building I don't know why they tied themselves down with the CV and Gordon contracts, how do they move forward

it would have been cool to see the Prince/Boozer trade go down
Kwame/Boozer/CV/Gordon/50 cent=worst defense in the league

Maxiell/Villanueva/Prince/Hamilton/Stuckey with Gordon coming off the bench. They can still compete but they are clearly in retooling mode.

Adrian Wojnarowski. The article says that it's still early, but this is the picture so far...

Dumars? replacing a defensive machine with a bunch of crotch grabbing scorers (Ben Gordon reference) with no defense?

Honestly, the one who really won in the free agency battle is Colangelo (Toronto) , RC Ruford (Spurs) and probably Danny Ferry (Cavaliers)

Especially Ruford, wish I had him and Colangelo on the same side.

I agree and with what BC did i'd say he wins, just based on where we were and and where we're now going. But the Spurs are a very close 2nd.
