Default X + Y = Championship

We've been talking about Hedo and what he might do for this team. We've talked about other inbound pieces in the same way. From what I've read, the bravest of Raptors fans in here dare not dream any higher than round two. So, my question is what does this team need, beyond what it has now, to become a true contender?

They could use a little speed coming off the bench. And perimeter defense. And Time.

You're actually barking up the right tree.
Right now the Raptors seem to have a decent team to throw out there and compete.
To get to championship level you need a true superstar. A dominant player who can impose his will on the league and put his team on his back.
The Raps still don't have that guy. Maybe Bosh or Bargs will become that type of player, but I doubt it.

a perimeter stopper and a big time shot blocker is what we need..IMO..but I love the make up of this team so far.

Let's just take Boston for example. They went from a 20 something wins team to a nba championship the next year.

What about Hedo last year? He was pretty much that guy for Orlando. Granted, they didn't win, but they got to the Finals and took down Cleveland. Having Dwight Howard certainly didn't hurt, though haha...

I think we're not Championship bound, but we have one of the best teams in recent years... I certainly think on paper, it's as good as the 47-35 squad from a few years ago, assuming BC can bring in at least one more solid player for the MLE and get a guy like Rasho for the biannual extension. It all depends how well all the pieces will fit together and whether Triano can come up with a good plan for the team.

Demar Derozan panning out into the player people have said he could be will make this team into a contender. Athleticism, length, speed - he's got all the tools to put the Raps over the top. It's all a matter of putting it all together.

To win right now, they need a starting-calibre sg who can make plays and defend. We get Wade as the starting sg, we win the East. Of course thats a pipe dream.

As to the list of FA's who fit the bill, not many game-changers. Probably the best would be Marquis Daniels, Josh Childress, Desmond Mason, Rodney Carney, Von Wafer, those guys leave a lot to be desired..

Also some punch of the bench: I would love to get JC Navarro as an energy 6th man and to a lesser extent, Nate Robinson if he wouldn't make too many waves. I think flip Murray would be a good pick-up for the bench as well as Lindsay Hunter, Walter Herrman...

Shane Battier.

If we get him without losing our starting 4 + derozan/evans/delfino/FA (basically impossible), we'll be championship contenders this year.
