Would you do this trade?

Itís no secret that the Knicks could use some help at small forward. They would be wise to bring back Landry Fields. While Fieldsí salary doesnít match his productivity, he is still an upgrade over Brewer and has fit well with Melo and co. in the past.

While the Toronto Raptors are filled with players who can make three-pointers, only John Lucas and Kyle Lowry can make them at a high percentage. Toronto needs a forward who can space the floor for when Rudy Gay and DeMar DeRozan drive to the basket, making Novak a perfect fit.

Steve Novak isnít just a good shooter, he is an amazing one. ESPN NBA analyst Jeff Van Gundy has constantly called Novak the best shooter heís ever seen. Novak has shot 44.7 percent from beyond the arc this season and a ridiculous 94 percent from the free throw line.

Although Novak is not as good as Fields, his salary is much more affordable for the Raptors. Fields is owed $6.25 million over the next two years, while Novakís salary is about $3.6 million annually over the next three seasons.

Toronto would also need to take on Kurt Thomasí expiring contract for this trade to work. Thomas is an experienced power forward who can rebound and play defense. The Raptors could use his presence inside after trading Ed Davis to the Memphis Grizzlies.
Toronto Raptors Should Swap Landry Fields for Knicks' Steve Novak & Kurt Thomas | Bleacher Report

Interesting.

Pure speculation of course, but I'd have to think long and hard about this one, as much of a Landry fanboy that I am.

Landry Fields is definitly overpaid, but i like him with the type of lineup we have. he makes hustle plays and has very good bball iq. im a fan

he just needs to work on his shot. and sometimes his easy layup abilities :cookie:

Makes sense for Knicks, doesn't for us. Novak is worst possible fit here

Yes, grudgingly. If we take Novak then we have to get rid of AA too though. I like the pieces Landry brings more than Novak (only shooting), but its hard to turn down getting the best 3 point shooter in the league (*cough* shades of Kapono *cough*).

Fields is a pretty valuable glue guy for us, which is why I think he should get more minutes than he does. Despite his inability to finish consistently, he's the only guy we have who seems to move well without the ball and his D is solid.

At the same time, this proposal is fascinating.

I would do this trade. Novak would make Bargnani more expendable, and Kurt Thomas is a solid veteran presence for our bigs. Trading Fields also frees up some playing time in the wing position.

Crazy, you are crazy. We all hate Fields, don't you dare to forget. This deal would be about getting rid of tragic contract for tragic player. He is no glue guy, unless you mean BC was smelling glue when signed him.

To be fair, he's a likable guy in terms of character. It's not his fault that he got that huge contract, so if you should hate anybody it would be Colangelo.

in a heartbeat. It's about salaries mostly, and Novak is as good a role player as Landry....... but I thought Landry and Melo didn't fit together???

I dunno guys, the way these guys are NOT swinging the ball, he may just end up a spectator on Offence watching RG jack up 27 shots, and then a pylon on defence.

We clearly need an offensive minded assistant coach.... it takes time, but come on, watch teams out west play each other and it's embarrassing how little ball movement we have. We should try and hire Sloan as a special consultant.

Ringing up those threes and giving up uncontested layups in return.

you know fields had a surgery at the beginning of the season ? and you know nerve damage take times to recover ? And i'm sure you are aware that he need to work a new JS because of that right ?
Just to be sure, aren't you the same people that cry out for the amir contract 3 years ago ?
