I get it. Playoffs equal profit, but for the Raptors, are the two home games they'll get, likely sold out for a capacity crowd on hand to watch the Raptors allow LeBron to score 60 points per game really worth surrendering a lottery pick in an offseason where it could be the Raptors' only true saving grace?

Consider this.

Make the playoffs-
pros:
-build morale
-allow Bosh one final audition for his max deal as the world watches
-1% chance in case of luck and injuries of actually advancing past first round
-make money from 2 playoff games

cons:
-false security. This isn't a playoff team the way they're playing, and whatever they did in Jan/Feb doesn't matter when they're playing like they are now. The playoffs are all about momentum and the Raptors are currently going in with NONE.
-Losing a top 12 draft pick. If the Raptors fail to make the playoffs, they have the 12th best odds in the lottery this season, as will any team that finishes 9th in the East due to 10 teams in the West likely having records good enough to make the playoffs in the East.
-Allows Bosh a final chance to show the whole world exactly WHY he isn't worth a max deal and creates a situation where he may
a. not opt out of his deal?
b. not garner enough interest from teams he wants to go to, crippling us into basically having to sign him to save face
c. garner enough interest, but fail to garner enough for a max contract, thus making whatever we get for him in a sign and trade less, considering his value would also be less around the league.

At this point, I consider this team fundamentally, structurally, and defensively flawed. They don't have the right attitude, right personalities, the right type of talent (lacking defense and athleticism), or the right type of coaching.

They've got far too much parity and they're paying way too much to players who are sitting on the bench.

Consider the salaries of guys like Turkoglu, Banks, Calderon, Evans.. That's almost 30 million in cap space to four players you could easily do without and not miss a beat. In the case of Turkoglu and Calderon especially, you'd probably be better off.

I want this team to tank, and tank hard. I want them to do so because it seems that being in the lottery is the only thing that lights a fire under Colangelo's ass. It seems it's the only way we're going to get a first rounder without parting with Bargnani or DeRozan, and it seems that the first rounder may be the only thing we'll have to get a team to take Turkoglu off of our hands. If the difference was between pick 12 and 15, I would certainly be for making the playoffs, as the talent slip in this draft after Wall and Turner is huge, but when the difference is between 12 and nothing, I think the Raptors would be wise to let the Bulls take on the Cavaliers, and maybe pack their golf bags a little earlier this year.

Tank get a pick a cheap player who knows we might luck out look at the players who were drafted after DD who have outplayed him this year.
Not that I think DD is terrible but he was put in a position to fail.

Bosh is gone even if he would resign it's a mistake let him opt out and leave.
While a good player he lacks the drive of true max player and in reality players that are below him such as Boozer, Amare, Lee, Johnson, Roy, Paul. I would rather have Rudy Gay any day.

I actually expect the Leafs to make the playoffs next year. This year is (was?) another chance, good or bad showing, to get some playoff limelight. Looks like they've blown it again this year, like last year.

Ppl on here will act like it's a tragedy, but realistically having our pick will do a lot more for us than a 4 or 5 game series vs the Cavs.

If this team showed some life, then yeah i'd say missing the playoffs would be a bad thing, but this team ain't shit and can't compete against ANY other playoff team, let alone the best team in the league.

Playing like they have since allstar, theres no point in getting to playoffs. It will be a shameful beating.

Players give no effort and coaching is just weak. BC did assemble a good deep roster but rookie coach couldn't make it work.

So whatever the standing, we are not ready for playoff. And I accept the poster arguments. Pick, open eyes on Bosh and open eyes on team.
But knowing our luck we get the 8th spot and get spanked hard.

i'd still very much prefer to watch us get smoked by the cavs in five. believe me there will be no sense of false-accomplishment by getting to the playoffs, i think everyone in the organization knows this season has been rather ugly and that the status quo is simply not good enough.

+1 Not making the playoffs is just stupid. What are we going to do with a 14-15th pick. Its gonna take more then one year for that rook to show anything good and constant. Plus who said BC wont make a trade that in folves a first round pick? Making the playoffs might help us sell Bosh to the other teams, he can show what he is made of in playoff time, make an impact before the season is done.

Make the p.o. will give at least some experience to your young players; put them in a different situation. and as said a mid level pick probably don't make you a better team.

if the playoffs are in reach you go for it, at least when you look back at the season you accomplished something by playing in the playoffs

Ask New jersey how trading away their best player feels.

These players still have some pride, and not making the playoffs last year to making it this year is still SOME progress.

Yes it would. If they miss them it would be two years of not getting to watch playoff ball. IDC if they go and get swept as long as they try hard to get there

I am fucking tired of missing the damn playoffs! Atleast if we make the playoffs we get that sense of a feeling as fans that this season was not a waste and our team is playing for something!

Why the hell would you wanna waste another year without playoffs? I dont give a shit if we lose to cavs 4-0 or even manage to win one game. It is all about shear entertainment for us sports fans.

BTW, even if we get the draft pick we it will be the 15th-20th pick and our management is pretty shit in scouting, so there is really no point.

At least if we make the playoffs we will have some free agents at least CONSIDER toronto for a place to play.

What free agents?

I don't think the people who are responding read what I said very carefully.

This team has zero assets at the moment outside of

-Bosh's sign and trade
-Bargnani who they won't move
-Jack who they'd like to keep
-DeRozan who they won't touch
-Banks+Evans expirings for long bloated contract?

Every other player on this team has negative value due to skill:contract ratio.

So, my point is.. if you have NO chance of advancing in the first round at all, why give up the 12th pick? To show the whole world just how bad CB4 is? To give Miami, a huge competitor of ours the 15th pick in the draft?

This draft is top-heavy but there are a TON of players the Raptors could use in their rotation next season at the 5 spot. Plus, if you want to move Turkoglu, you're going to have to give that pick up to do so. You really want him back for another season?

This team is going to get SMOKED by the Cavs. Whats the point of losing the 12th pick in the draft for it? Think long term instead of short term for a second.

You have to go ahead and make the playoffs. It's good for the organization, especially one that needs to be shown a little respect. Being on the outside looking in is a big thing that makes teams like Philly and Indiana seem so dismal. I'd want nothing to do with those teams as a quality player.

I just want them to go to the playoffs so I can go to a game. I almost jumped out of my chair when I saw the sea of red and almost cried to know that it was too late to get tickets.
