Would Nocioni-for-Ford Trade Work?

Something to read and think about. Article from HoopsWorld. This isn't a rumour, but more a possible transaction which I think most Raptor fans would support.

The Toronto Raptors just capped off their season by getting knocked out of the playoffs by a superior Orlando Magic team. This is a team too talented to waste any of Chris Bosh's prime playing years in rebuilding mode. With one move they could put themselves in a much better position to succeed.

That move is parting ways with T.J. Ford this offseason. Fans know Jose Calderon has come into his own and is now a more than capable replacement at point guard. Many teams, such as the Chicago Bulls, don't have the luxury of being led by a point guard as talented as Ford. That could change.

The Raptors should offer Ford to the Bulls for Andres Nocioni. It would be a steal if they could get him for Ford, a player they will probably move regardless this summer. For a team looking for a bit more stability from their forwards (Jorge Garbajosa missed most of the 2007-2008 season), Nocioni is a perfect match. He played 82 games this year.

His game fills some needs the Raptors have. He plays tough defense and is known as a 100% effort type of player. He averaged 13.2 points per game this year, which would've placed him second Toronto's roster. He was also close to Jamario Moon's 6.2 rebounds per game (Moon was second on the team in boards).

In short, Nocioni would at the very least be a versatile and talented addition to the Raptors' frontcourt in exchange for an injury-prone player whose influence in any given game would be hindered by his coming off the bench. If it's at all possible, Nocioni should be a high priority for the Raptors this summer. ----- Jon Mladic

Here's the thing—the Bulls need to make some changes this offseason. Two guys on the roster, Kirk Hinrich and Andres Nocioni, are making a significant amount of money without showing much long-term promise for the organization. Hinrich is an average point guard who probably hit his ceiling as a college player, and despite being a hard-nosed fan favorite in Chicago Nocioni seems to be the odd man out of the Bulls' young forward rotation.

Luckily for John Paxson, these two are players with salaries significant enough to be used in a substantial trade. Massive overhauls could happen this summer if the right deal comes along, and a Nocioni-for-T.J. Ford deal wouldn't be a horrible place to start.

Ford has battled injury issues in his career, but when healthy and playing his best ball he's clearly a better point guard than Hinrich. Trading Noch for Ford straight up works beautifully in terms of salaries, and it would then open the door for the Bulls to move Hinrich, whose contract is deceptively attractive because his yearly values decrease every season for the duration of the deal.

What the Bulls could fish for Hinrich is totally up for discussion, but leaving behind a core with Ford, Larry Hughes, Luol Deng, Drew Gooden, and Joakim Noah is decent, with Ben Gordon and Tyrus Thomas leading the charge off the bench. Package Hinrich and Thomas for something else, throw in this year's lottery pick and a new coach, and who knows what could happen for the Bulls in 2008-2009?

At the heart of the deal, Chicago makes a change that could potentially be very fruitful for the team's inevitable new image. ----- Joel Brigham

I love Nocioni and although he is similar, even if better, then Delfino I would do that trade in a second.

I would do that trade, if it were the only one there.

I prefer they look at improving interior size and toughness.

I'd love this deal. Any deal that nets us an athletic small forward for Teej, I'm all for.

My thoughts exactly. I like Nocioni and while their salaries are close Chicago would be getting the better player(even the authors above recognized that) and I dont' think we're in a position we need to dump Ford for anything we can get. I'm pretty sure BC can find better options.

Of course. Rasho's an expiring.. so is AP.. so is Garbo.. so is Graham..so there's a lot of options there.

I'd love a 3 and a starter to replace Parker.
If we could get Marvin Williams and Michael Redd this off-seasonwithout giving up Calderon, Bargs or Bosh, I'd be happy. But too bad it ain't happenin.

If Dallas does decide to make a change, we could always see if we pry someone away from there. That is, if they want to make a change.

While you are still riding that high, could you please swap Bosh for Howard to complete a makeover? I mean, that's a dynasty right there, baby...

If we could turn Ford (with extra padding if the need be) into a slasher/scorer from the wing who is capable of creating for himself and others AND is a good individual defender, I'd be very happy.

I am just not sure Nocioni is that player.

Ford is the Raptors best player they are willing to move, I agree they need interior toughness and good D but I think we should our first priority should be looking for that athletic 3 to play Moon off the bench. Moon played solid this year, but him coming off the bench, he would have a huge impact.

I'd rather use package assets to either get a rebounding/toughness player a la Dalembert, or a scoring wing, a la Redd or Howard or Melo in dreamland. Noc isn't bad at either but I don't think he'd be much more than a temporary bandaid. Plus he's kind of a chucker.

Realistically what can be had for TJ and an expiring contract?

Let's not forget that beyond his reputation as a selfish player, he's one hard foul away from being out for an extended period of time or even worse - for good. Are other GM's willing to role the dice on someone like that and if so also give up something of quality in return?

Re: Nocioni

I love him. He's a massive agitator, he plays hard and he takes shit from no one. We definitely could use a guy like that.

yep, maybe talent wise they dont match, but thats probably the best thing we can get.
He rebounds, he really defends, he is tough and he is a decent scorer.

I disagree ... I'd rather have Moon start and Parker come off the bench. I think Parker is now on the decline of his career and think he might be better served to come on as a offensive and defensive spark off the bench for the next couple seasons. I believe that over the next couple seasons assuming that Moon improves he'll be more of a factor for this team especially from a defensive standpoint where we struggled terribly this season. JMO.

Parker can become what Jerry Stackhouse is to Dallas the last three or four years.
