Would Lionel Hollins Be the Perfect Fit

Quote:

Toronto Raptors fans are still reeling after an epic second half collapse against the Golden State Warriors on Tuesday night. Many in Raptor Nation are gutted, angry, and fed up after the dinos’ fourth straight loss. Fans are looking to point the finger at someone. Dwane Casey, that means you. But realistically speaking who could be brought in to effectively replace Casey?

Lionel Hollins is one name that many are throwing around currently. Just one season ago Hollins was let go by the Memphis Grizzlies after a four year stint. Yet Hollins led the Grizz to a franchise record 56 regular season wins and its first Western Conference finals appearance last season. It was quite an impressive run considering that Hollins was able to develop a Grizzly roster which featured young and unestablished players at the time, such as Rudy Gay, Mike Conley and Marc Gasol while also simultaneously incorporating veteran additions such as Tony Allen and Zach Randolph into the rotation as they arrived....

Im not really convinced that Hollins is good at developing young talent, other than that I think he would be awesome

Marc gasol was a nobody before hollins wasn't he?

I'm curious why Hollins keeps coming up. Is he the best out there or the best that would consider Toronto? I don't know him that well but I'm curious how exactly he would fit this team, other than "he's good at developing young players and fitting in veterans" which goes for nearly every coach in the league...

Who knows? I've heard some say he's good at developping bigs....not sure though.

If he could make Val a part of the offense like he did with Gasol then I'm all for it.

i think he would be a great fit here, plus he is a coach that has actually played in the NBA before and won a ring. Having a coach that knows what it takes to actually make it to the finals and win is a bonus.

A coach who coached a team from the "West" and brought them to the play offs 3 seasons in a row?

Hell any Raptor should be happy to have a coach like that...

This, and if we can build a team that fits his system, giddy up!!

Yeah man, the guy who doesn't believe in advanced metrics would be perfect for this. We'd be building enough brick houses to extinguish poverty all around the world with Lionel Hollins coaching Demar and Rudy. :therock:

If they didn't play the way he wanted them to play, he'd nail them to the bench. And the advanced metrics story may be just that, a cover your ass story being floated.

firecasey2013 12-07-2013 10:56 PM

why would a playoff coach want a team that's rebuilding starting next year?

I like the idea of Butch Carter coming back... listening to him talk makes me think he's really got a feel for developing a team. He'd be a great coach for the rebuild.
