Default Would it be better to miss the playoffs?

Whats the point of crawling into the playoffs then getting destroyed by Magic or Cavs. Not only would that destroy morale but it would cost us a draft pick. Also if we do miss the playoffs maybe it finally convinces BryCo to change his philosophy on how to build a NBA team and maybe he gets a Coach who has (some) balls.

Also due to the new CBA next year many of the best prospects will flood this draft to try to avoid the new CBA, meaning this will be a extremely deep draft. So even at the 14th or 13th pick we would get some value.

Personally I believe Bosh has already decided to leave so a first round massacre won't change his mind.

Another problem I could see arising is if we somehow push the Cavs or Magic to a 6 or 7 game series and giving the illusion that this team is more than a treadmill 7 or 8th seed team. So BryCo would think this extremely flawed team could work in a grind it out style of play that is the Eastern Conference

I like your post...

Im on the fence with this... whats the point in making the playoffs when theres almost no chance to advance to the 2nd round being basically swept my Lebron or the Magic...

If we miss the playoffs we get our first round pick back... and have a chance at the Lottery even if its a minimal chance at landing the #1 or 2 pick...

Bosh bolts, we rebuild... have 2 picks in the draft and land a stud? Not to mention having the pick as an asset for a sign and trade or what not...

Plus the cap room if we dont do a sign and trade to get a FA in this years amazing Free Agent class...

Oh how i wish we had a guy like Tyreke Evans or Durant

if there was another team in Toronto going to the playoffs I wouldn't care as much, but sadly, the Raps are the only team with a good chance right now

Anything can happen in the playoffs. Anyone who says they'd rather miss the playoffs in favour of gaining a marginal draft selection is a damned fool.

we lose our draft pick to Miami this year if it is not a lottery pick. This is a stupid idea unless we really tank.

I would rather watch some playoff ball and get some playoff experience then watch us sink into shit again

Missing the playoffs would destroy morale 1000 times more than getting there and losing first round.

Playoffs are always good. Its always nice going to the big dance. Its too bad we'll be the ugliest chick dancing alone on the dance floor.

I would love to see the Raptors back into the playoffs but my fear is that if we somehow push The Cavs to 6 or 7 games, that might give BryCo enough ammo to stick with his current plan for this team. If we do miss the playoffs after all the aquistions maybe finally the heat will be on BryCo (hes unlimited control of this team for the past 4 years) to change is approach to the type of players he wants for this team.

No. Playoffs are playoffs. It doesn't matter who we face, we still get to play extra games and the players will build upon that

Atlanta almost pulled the biggest upset of all time on boston in 07 then they became the team they are today, so the playoffs might be a good morale boost

If you guarentee a top 3 pick so the raps could draft Turner, Wall or Johnson I'd say giddy up but that won't happen.

You make the playoffs to give the team a taste.

it would be better for the team long run, but I'm selfish and I want to see playoff basketball in toronto, especially given that if Bosh leaves, we're going into rebuilding and won't sniff at the playoffs for at least one season if not two.

human beings have a major problem in that they tend to value short term returns much higher than the long term ones, even if the second return would be higher.

making the playoffs (in the 7-8 spot) means:
1. complete anihilation in the 1st round (higher dissapointment than missing it imo - losing 4 blowouts would clearly show how far we are from elite, while you can always blame missing the playoffs on CB's injury)
2. losing the 1st round pick to Miami
3. a slightly higher chance of retaining Bosh
4. more money for MLSE, which they might feel incline to spend

Personally, I doubt losing 4-0 to the cavs will make Bosh feel better about staying here. The 4th argument could be significant though, IF we make the playoffs and IF we are reasonably competitive (say we take the Cavs to the 6th game, with 4 or 5 close games in the process) and IF Bosh stays, it might convince MLSE to open the vault.

Still, I would rather see this team torn apart we aren't anywhere close to a title, and the future is not that bright, even if Bosh stays. Most we can realistically hope for is what we had in the past, a .500 or so record and 1st round loss. Eventually Bosh will ask to be traded, and we won't have any young players behind him, and will get pennies on the dollar in the trade, and we'd be in a much worse position.

i like this post too.. sadly the nba is not like soccer where you win witout a super star like lyon and real .. if you guys know what i mean ... i do think Bosh is gone .. and the best thing would be is to get a good young player back .. rozan isnt gonna be a superstar.. a good player at best.. so in a way new jersey is in a better place then us with alot more talent to they will be a really good team next you and youll forget about this year .

Getting 8th won't help us either way. We need to be dying to play anyone other than cleveland right now

I just saw a commercial on RapsTv.

"Secure your Raptors playoff tickets, until April 18th"

"WHEN RED & BLACK ATTACK" (I guess the seas of red has been nixed. lol)
