Default Worst season ever - and not just because of the obvious reason

I haven't remembered another Raptors season that's frustrated me more. Not a single previous season (and I've been here since the beginning) that I can remember being less fun. This can be easily be broken down to two primary reasons:

1. Obviously, the sheer disappointment. We've underachieved beyond comprehension.

2. TSN and Roger's f**king the fans. Okay, so our team kind of sucks right now. Whatever, I've survived worse Raptor season. But the difference was I was able to watch those seasons. Whatever the hell problem Rogers and TSN are having with each other I don't give a damn. The fact that every other (seemingly) Raptors game is on freaking TSN2, which isn't available to Rogers subscibers (which is practically everyone) means I can't even tune in! What the hell? Sure, there are internet streams available, but I didn't get an HD TV and pay extra for HD channels so I can stream a stuttering 480x320 video.

*sigh*

See, I can handle a disappointing season. I can watch us lose and still be a fan. But the losing season coupled with the horrendous scheduling and broadcast segregation has multiplied, to me, just how bad this season is.

Is it a good or a bad thing that TSN2 carries that many Raps games this season?

I'm still torn...

But yes, this season is, by far, the worst one to be Raps fan... even when they were really bad we were hopeful they would improve... now, I'm just pissed at them.

i'm going to have to interupt and say bullshit.

this isn't the worst season. not by a long shot.

The worst - and i mean WORST season ever was the 97/98 season where EVERYBODY and their mother and their dog jumped ship and didn't want anything to do with the raptors. The GM just upping and leaving; The franchise player runnning after him like a sniffling baby shit head; the key guy in the trade for said player refusing to come to town. Fuck. That was the worst. Oh and we won 16 games all year long. good times.

Second worst was the Babcock year that he traded Vince.

Now those two seasons brought ANGER and FRUSTRATION and EMBARASSMENT to me.

This year sucks, but it pales in comparison. PALES.

100% agree!!

It was a perfect shit-storm of a season:

1) Zeke bailed in an ownership dispute
2) Demon demanded to be traded (and was) by our rooking GM (GG)
3) We were still playing in the Dome, MLSE still hadn't bought the team (for the ACC) so we were at risk of losing our franchise.
4) And than our head coach QUIT.

When has has a team suffered more than we did in 1997/98.

2008/09 in comparision is like a walk through a crowed mall, not a bare foot 1K walk over burning coals.

The most recent failure always seems like the worst. But there have been many bad seasons that have happened. I think this season reminds me a lot of the season that the Raptors re-signed the Williams and Davis. Along with re-signing Vince and bringing in the dream. Everyone was super pumped about that Raptors. To the point the NBA Commissioner said the Raptors had one of the best off seasons in the league. It would go very badly with injuries and the team would be written off for dead(Kinda like now) They would go on a run out of no where and make the playoff only to have Chris Childs make a bone head play and end the season. This feels a lot like that season but I am not thinking this team can make the run it will take to get in.

pretty good comparison Dino Blogger.

12 losses in a row then followed by 12 wins or something like that right?

I don't think this team has that in them.

This season reminds me more of the year after where we traded Davis and JYD for Matshall and Jalen. I totally remember thinking we could do some damage that year, except that we ended up winning only 20 something (if i recall correctly). Hey at least we got Bosh out of it.

hint hint!

Although Raps this year will, most likely, win more then 16 games I still think that this is their worst year. Because of their roster, BC factor, TSN2 and overall fan expectations.

In 1997/98 Raps were still considered expansion team and nobody expected them to do anything... they had bunch of nobodies playing but fans were still happy just to be able to watch NBA games live & in person.

Babcock year was bad but fans were happy to see biggest asshole on the face of the planet go... not to mention that Raps still managed to win 27 games... something that will be extremely hard to do this year.

I bet that if you asked any fan after that 12th loss whether that team has it in them to pull as 12 win streak you would have fan very few believers ...

It's bad timing to ask this question, because:

1. the season is only half way over
2. we're riding a 7 game losing streak, ask the same question next month after we win 4 in a row - you will get a different reaction
3. last season we had a similar bad stretch at the end of the season, which was even worse because of the TJ/Jose controversy, the hugely dissapointing Barnani, the steady fall in the rankings etc.

I still have hopes for this season, but the next 10 days will be critical. Our schedule gives us a chance to win 11 of the next 15 (very unlikely, but possible). If we win 9 or 10, we're back in the game, especially if marion and jose join the team, and Bargnani and parker continue to play well. If we lose more than 6 of the next 11, the season is done and we might as well tank it.

i lived in vancouver from about 94-98 when i was at ubc. i saw what raps games i could, but watched a hell of a lot more grizzlies games. you wanna talk about bad seasons? at least the raps didn't start off by drafting big country and shareef back to back, followed 2 years later by a head case that refused to play in canada.

sometimes we don't know how good we have it.

hell, when i was growing up there was no toronto raptors. i thank my lucky stars every day that i have a home team to root for, even when things aren't going well. it may be a tough stretch, but any active nba season in toronto is a good season, imo.
