Worrisome....Raps future.

I'm asking your opinions on this because it's a legitimate concern to me. Do you think that an NFL team, the Bills, landing in Toronto would end up draining disposable income enough so that Toronto sports fans could end up doing to the Raptors what they are currently doing to the Blue Jays? i.e. staying away in droves except for a small group of diehards.

Don't forget, the Blue Jays used to be KINGS! They were breaking attendance records. With the exception of hockey which can do nothing and still attract fans, we tend to have a mentality of wanting to stick it to our big brothers, the USA.

When the Raptors came around, they stole some of the Jays' thunder in that regard. The CFL will always trail behind because there is nothing to prove. Toronto is already top dog in this country. It felt great that Americans hated the World series championship going north.

But now to have that kind of fan sentiment and attention split among 3 major leagues.....can this team survive long term?

No i dont' think that's a concern. The main concern the Raptors franchise has is winning. Enough losing season's in a row with management not really trying to fix the situation and ownership unwilling to spend money would lead to people will stop supporting them. The Jays have been average to bad, failing to make the playoffs at all, with a manager that defies logic and ownership unwilling to spend on talent... it's not a surprise they've fallen.

as long as the raptors WIN fans will come. BlueJays had great attendance in the 90s when the were WINNING...and not struggle to draw 20,000 a game

and I don't think the NFL is a concern, it's just 1 game a season and for a BUFFALO team that isn't that good.

There's 4.5 million people inthe gta, 8 within 100 miles of Toronto
the disposable income in Toronto is very high
this town could easily support a team in every major sport
if Dallas can do it, Toronto would not break a sweat

I don't think it's a done deal that Toronto is getting an NFL team. I don't see it happening.

Secondly, the Jays aren't top of mind because they haven't made themselves to be top of mind. When the team wins, historically, the crowd shows up. However, they haven't done that. There are alot of baseball fans here who refuse to pay money for a sub par product. I'd argue Jays fans are the smartest fans in this area to be honest.

So, no, I'm not worried about the Raps future. The Raps have a die hard fanbase here, it may be a niche market, yet it supports it well. Also, it has the backing of MLSE.

Yes, the Jays started to lose, but what percentage of that is also because the Raptors came onto the scene, and the see what happens in the Vince Carter prime years...

and for those who think Buffalo WILL hang onto that team, things look like they could get worse for that city. The population wasn't that big, but it continues to decline in key areas. They're in trouble.

don't take my word for it....

baseballs different though.

1. Theirs twice as many home games.
2. The ball parks are a LOT bigger.
3. It's really really boring. Throw the friggin ball...
4. The league has no salary cap.
5. The jays don't want to compete financially.
6. It's really really boring.
