Drunk or not, he would still be this team's best defender either way.

If you put James in the weight room with a better trainer, give him some better ball handeling skills a jumpshot & he would be a poormans LBJ IMO

But a lot has to go right for that to happen.

If he has messed up his chance in TO then what can we do?

He could be an interesting peice for a Rudy Gay trade though.

Jose, Amir & JJ for Gay?

I you were Grizzlies GM, would you jump up to hearing that you could get these three guys for Gay?

James Johnson did ok while he was here but it's time to move on,

SF Fields/Kleiza
SG Derozan/Ross

If he's willing to sit in a suit until a roster space because becomes available due to injury or emergency then keep him,if not then let him go.

Heh. I'd probably say "poor man's Artest" rather than Lebron.

i think that is the difference in philosophy that he has with the team, the team wants him to be that kind of player but he wants to also be the player that penetrates and double dribbles or travels

i personally don't want him done because of the D he brings but if we want to be a legit team he's got to be a bench player and there has to be a better player starting at SF

What's all this nonsense?
I thought JJ sat towards the end of the season, cause he was a lock-on keeper and Casey wanted to see others.

You're wrong. They admited after the season that there was an issue and that they had "resolved" it.

Great defender, very good, unselfish passer, competitive attitude - what's not to like? With improvements he has shown last season, at least to me, he has earned the starting SF job unless we somehow managed to obtain a bona-fide star there.

Agreed. He's our best small forward though Kleiza may show more now that's he's more than a year removed from microfracture. Landry Fields is third.

I definitely want JJ back. He can be a little infuriating sometimes, but overall, he's a good, young all-around player with a knack for playing good defense. Even if he never improves - which is unlikely given his age - he'd still be a good backup/third stringer coming off the bench.

Fields is not a small forward and neither is DeRozan, at least not going by the game they've been playing so far in the NBA. Kleiza is more of a undersized power player, especially considering how mobile the new breed of small forwards have become on the perimeter. So, all in all, we currently have one (ONE) proper small forward on the roster, and his name is James Johnson. And so, unless a major acquisition transpires (which I personally doubt very much), this is our rotation for this coming season:

PG - Lowry (Caldy)
SG - DeRozan (Fields)
SF - JJ (Kleiza)
PF - Bargnani (Amir, Ed)
C - Gray (Jonas, Amir)

I highly doubt JJ starts next season. BC said our most glaring need going into the offseason was at SF. I just don't see Colangelo not addressing that since he said it was his main priority. So unless there simply isn't a deal to be done I have to think something will happen there.

I 100% agree about Fields and DD, there are SG's. Kleiza plays like an undersized stretch 4 or in his cause a slow moving 3. I agree with Jeffb about the SF need as the #1 priority, both BC and DC and almost every pundit and fan and child and dog say the Raps need one. I'll be slightly disappointed if we start the new season without an upgrade there. However the caveat to that is there are a number of SF's next summer so if the Raps have to play DD or Ross or Fields to back-up Kleiza then so be it. There is time and we can probably safely assume that even without the upgraded SF, BC has made enough positive moves to get an extension again.

Why do you think he isn't a small forward when thats what his position was before Melo took it from him?
Fields can play both SF/SG.

He lost his starting role to Melo? Brutal.... we should have chased the guy that took Melo's starting job, Gallo!

SF today is what SG was in the late 90s - the most dominant position in the league, with monsters like Durant, LeBron and Melo redefining the position Bird has first put on the map, at least the way it's played today. We don't have anyone besides JJ even remotely capable of defending the position - that's why I consider him very valuable and don't think Fields is a small forward.

Is there a way for BC to save face, rescinding the offer to Fields?
