Raptors Wolstat: Strong bids to buy MLSE

Quote:

Could just be to elicit bids/better offers but higher ups at MLSE are indicating there are "several strong possibilities" to buy the company

Fuck it, what other drama do we have?

It'll likely be Rogers anyway.

Spending is not the issue with MLSE. They spend to the cap with the Leafs and usually spend up to the tax with the Raps.

I think that was his point..... you're right, MLSE does spend, but they've had some Mickey Mouse tendencies.

spending won't be an issue once the NBA gets a hard cap!!!!!! I don't care who the new owner is as long as they care about the team. it's a shame that the leafs are part of the package (for us raptor fans) cause it would be nice to have a basketball enthusiast owning the craptors.

I agree and if its not Rogers it'll be Bell. In this economy I really don't see a single owner (although the thought of a mark cuban like rich ass owner sounds appealing) spending the in and around billion dollars.

It has to be a company that can use it more than just sports. Also, how many people want to be a sports franchise not named the NFL aside a Middle Eastern Oil Baron in this economy?

From what I hear this up for sale thing could happen for a long time because MLSE wants to get a huge price tag for selling 4 teams.

So we can only assume that the bidding will just go higher & higher, untill they top out...

(PS ROGERS will not let CBC, SHAW, BELL or TELUS out bid them for MLSE. If Rogers is to out bid by a company outside of CBC, SHAW, BELL or TELUS then we may see MLSE land with someone else ie. TD CANADA TRUST?)

NO! I'm not going to buy Sports Pack 2. I do not want rogers having a monopoly over Toronto sports and switching it over to their shitty SportsNet channels.

CBC can't buy them b/c they're a crown corp. halphbreed. Also, I don't think either of the large communications companies take over MLSE. The CRTC would attempt to negate any attempt at monopolizing the property on their stations.

TD is in acquisition mode, so it wouldn't surprise me to be honest, but I think they'd be more interested in the real estate portfolio than anything else.

They didn't stop them from moving all the Blue Jays games to their stations.

BTW CRTC is useless as **** and very corrupt, just look at the internet situation.

Yeah, they weren't a 'great' property.

That being said, if they owned them, they'd control the Jays, Raptors, Leafs and TFC rights and essentially shut down competition (radio, print, television etc.)

I don't see where the CRTC would exercise any authority here. They have a hard time doing anything beyond delaying most moves by the present-day robber barons, and that's when it comes to areas where there are regulations in place. This only concerns the local market, so it's hard to see where there's much to be negated by a national regulatory agency that is well in over its head with everything else it needs to look at.

Why?

Honestly, explain the difference. 90% of sports franchise owners are barely fans, they are businessmen. I have no idea why people think that its all big fans that want there team "rah rah" to win. Hell they don't even see wins and losses, the see gate draw opportunities man.

Toronto has sucked in the NHL because they were too cheap to spend on the management end. Cheap and stupid really. Things have turned around dramatically on the leaf side and they are building a strong team now. I think it's comical that people think that the MLSE and its attachment to the Leafs has any affect on the piss poor Raptor record.

I just don't see it man.

That IS ridiculous. It's MLSE's attachment to each of their teams that effects each one of them individually... at least to a degree, loafs or no loafs. The loafs just happen to be ONE of the many shit teams.

just so you know, Banks tend to be frugal. When interest rates drop, do you see them passing the entire drop onto their customers? Have you looked at a GIC rate lately?
