Multiple team sources told the Sun that they were impressed with North Carolina power forward John Henson’s workout at the ACC on Thursday.

Though the franchise has little need for another power forward, Raptors vice-president of basketball operations Ed Stefanski did tell the media after the workout: “I think you’ve got to go with who you think is best even if it’s the same thing because you have trades and things like that you can do down the road.”

Henson duplicates fellow UNC alum Ed Davis a bit, but is longer and an even better shot-blocker. Andrea Bargnani and Amir Johnson are also best suited to the position, though both have played in the middle at times in the past.

Henson is a very good athlete, has great length and projects as an elite shot-blocker in the NBA. He is rail thin and has a long way to go offensively, but has drawn comparisons to another svelte ex-Raptor, Marcus Camby.

I would also put Philly in that mix. They need help up front. More so than Houston imo. They need to plan for life after Elton Brand.

The only way this happens is if we're picking him for someone else or we have a deal in place that includes Davis or Amir.

I still think Davis will be included in a trade. And Kleiza could be amnestied as well.

don't think its wise to take Henson since we already have a very similar player in Davis.

unless henson is a significant upgrade to davis or henson is a being looked at as a huge trading piece, there literally no reason to get this guy

its kind of like when we got charlie v by going way off the draft board rankings

I still want us to draft a SG or PG as backups. We have too many PF's right now, even is Henson just replaces Davis (if he's traded) we'd be in the same position. Can't see us taking him.

Well they see something special about him that we don't know and he can end up being a steal of the draft I couldn't care less if we have to many pf's. Talent can always be traded

Often when you draft for position u end up getting a bad pick

That's true... IF the player in question shows great potential. Honestly though... if we drafted Henson when we already have JV, Bargs, Amir and Ed here I'd facepalm hard.

The only way it'd make sense to take him is if he was some sort of incredible talent like Davis.

Thank you! I was just about to say this reading through this thread.

Raps could either pick this guy and then deal one (or a few of) Bargs, Amir, Ed Davis or Henson

OR

Maybe BC has had some conversations about moving back (let's say 5 spots, but one of the teams 3 spots down covets him) and this is just a way of pumping his stock up to get another team to make a move.
