Do you even know how tanking works generally? And have you read any posts in this thread?

If Uriji is going to tank next year, he's going to end up trading a lot of our main core currently(Lowry, Gay, Derozan, possibly Amir) for shorter contracts and likely less talented players, and fill out our bench with 1 year contract players who won't really impact winning, something like Dallas did this year. And if he goes this route in starting the season without 2/4 or 3/4 of the names above, we would be tanking because our roster just isn't up to par. Then when injuries happen, you're likely to see the player take a lot longer to come back, if they come back at all, a la Cleveland with Irving.

Tanking isn't about not trying, it's about sitting out your key pieces, or trading away your key pieces for flexibility in the future, and then for 1 year not having enough talent on the floor to actually win games, despite how hard the players try

Exactly. No team ever tells the players to lose on purpose. You just create the environment that leads to that.

Is there going to be a press conference any time soon? Curious to hear Ujiris thoughts on the team.

Whither coach Casey? Bryan Colangelo was emphatic that if he was back, Dwane Casey, with a year left on his contract, would be to. The new regime may want its own coach, or sit back and see how the season starts. None of Casey’s assistants are signed past July 1.

Trade Bargnani? Colangelo talked openly of trading enigmatic Andrea Bargnani, but will Masai Ujiri have a different idea? Perhaps.

What about Lowry? Kyle Lowry, the only legitimate starting point guard on the roster, doesn’t have a fully guaranteed contract. He can be bought out of his $6.2 million deal for $1 million until mid-June, a rather short timeline. If they do buy him out, then what?

Raptors: No guarantee coach Casey will be back | Raptors | Sports | Toronto Sun

Quote:
If you are Dwane Casey this morning, you have to be wondering just a little bit.As some published reports have suggested, it certainly appears that the Raptors new general manager Masai Ujiri is leaning towards keeping the Raptors head coach, who has another year left on his contract, around. But Ujiri stopped well short of guaranteeing that Casey will be his head coach heading into next season.“I’ve talked to Dwane Casey a couple of times and we’re going to sit down and I will understand what his philosophies are and I will tell him what my philosophies are and I’ll tell him what I think needs to be changed,” Ujiri said. “For me this organization is going to be like this now (hands together) and we will all be on the same page and have the same goals.”At different times during his news conference Tuesday and even during his informal chat with the media following the actual news conference, Ujiri sounded like he was 75% decided but not quite ready to commit fully to Casey.“For me, Dwane Casey has done a great job but I need to sit down with coach and figure out what his philosophies are and what he’s thinking for the future of this team ... I need these 2-3 weeks where coach and I are going to figure out whether this thing is going to go forward for the next year. Right now I don’t see any reason why not.”Again not a glowing endorsement or guarantee but certainly a suggestion that Casey will get the opportunity begin the third and
final year on his contract. As for Casey’s coaching staff which are all without contracts for next season, that decision will be made only after one is definitively made on Casey.‘You will be surprised’ who Raptors’ staff will beRaptors president and general manager of basketball operations Masai Ujiri has the staff he wants pretty much picked out. It’s not going to be a staff large in numbers like, say, the Toronto Maple Leafs front office, but it is one that is going to put the rest of the league on notice according to MLSE president and CEO Tim Leiweke.“You will be surprised,” Leiweke said of the staff Ujiri is assembling. “It will be smaller but it’s a very dynamic organization. We will not lack in energy.”The major hold-up on naming the staff is that some or all are currently under contract to other teams and with the draft just around the corner, are reluctant to leave their old teams at such a pivotal time in the year.“Even for me it was a tough time to take me away from my team (Denver) because this is one of the periods you are leading into a time when big decision can be made about a team and some of the guys I’m looking at (for his management team) are in that situation too,” Ujiri said. “It’s sensitive. Everyone wants their decision-makers and scouts that they work with to be around on that draft day so, as soon as I’m done with your guys, I’ll go attack that and figure it out as quick as I can.”Ujiri says he his hopeful he can announce his staff pre-draft but is thinking it will likely be post-draft before that is possible.

my take after seeing the two interviews is that casey is in the same spot as BC - he'll be retained unless they can hit a home run on a top coach. TL gushed about assembling the best front office in the league, somehow I don't see Casey as elite. On the other hand, they are interviewing for assistants already, which only makes sense if casey stays.

I think, ultimately, his fate will depend on the route we're taking here. If we go full rebuild, no top coach will be interested, and casey will win it by default. If we try to make a push with this roster, they will probably go for a big name and they may or may not succeed.

All in all, I'd put his chances at 80%+ that he stays the season.
