The top drafts next year I beleive are Power Forwards.

We dont need a power forward.

So tanking would be irrelevant.
It was also rehashed many times, being demoralizing, having a losing attitude, it could alienate players to leave a team that promotes tanking.

Besides its a shitty way to live your life being a wanna be loser.

Who had two top picks last year????Cleveland? Hows that working out for them?

You play those players in those roles as much as you can to have them get much better where they need to.

If they win a lot of games, that's fantastic, you might actually be a contender when you trade your other assets, get a half decent pick, sign a new FA.

If you lose a lot of games, you get a great (hopefully?) draft pick to fill one of the holes that was preventing your system from breaking through (take BPA if not and make a trade to get what you need)

The decision to tank is bad because the players (DD, Bargs, Bayless, Amir) aren't being pushed and are being trained that losing is ok within the organization. It makes us less attractive to other cities for the FA market.

The decision to "go for the win" is bad because, let's be real, you can't win. So don't waste time winning meaningless games and giving players significant minutes or playing your team around what you have if they won't be there next year or beyond*!

*exception being players for pumping value for trade purposes

The answer is put your future out there and run them like sled dogs.

excellent post
and i agree wholeheartedly

i think, for now, we should still be going for wins. This early stage of the season is where the players will learn most.

i still think we'll be in the bottom 5 or so in the east. There are some awful teams in the east but teams like charlotte, new york and milwaukee will still be too good for us at the bottom of the playoff ladder.

something people kinda ignored when looking towards OKC as a good example of tanking is that it's a lot easier to tank in the west! i'm not sure how much actual tanking took place there. They were probably something similar to us now, establish a culture, prioritise development and maybe similar to us now as well, deliberately have a crap bench which will always hurt you. That may be the one area where we are kind of "tanking"

i think we'll end up with somewhere around 8th-14th pick and there will be great options out there. as others have said, trade deadline and FA could be fascinating. I'd love to get gallinari in, big fan of his.

whatever happens i think we'll be a pretty strong team next year.

Agreed, I could see Anthony Davis turning into a Durant-esque SF in the NBA. He's got the height and the handles to play that position.
