Personally, I agree with those suggesting Chandler is using us for some leverage with Denver, where he is going to end up.

However, and regardless of Chandler's intentions, JJ has grown on me big time this season. Whether as a starter or coming off the bench, I'd really like the team to retain him.

And frankly, from what I remember of him, Chandler is definitely not a better defender than Johnson and neither can he play PF in smaller lineups. Yes, his outside shot is better than JJ's at the moment, but is that enough to warrant a huge difference in salary it'd require to get Chandler?

If James Johnson is your future small forward, you better have some talented starters on that team. Derozan is not a dynamic player limited by his ball handling skills, Bargnani can't stay on the floor, Val will take a few years to develop, and Calderon is not your future point guard. This team needs more talent especially with an offensive touch, get chandler and amnesty or trade Kleiza.

I can't see Denver paying Chandler 8Mil/yr long term deal to come off the bench behind Galinari.

and galinari is getting better and better. Dude is a star in Denver. maybe Chandler backing him up makes them a real contender.

That's a decent point. TBH, based on what I've seen so far from JJ this season I'd be leaning towards keeping him over paying through the nose for Chandler. Wilson's good but I don't think he's an all-star calibre player... which is what he'd have to be for me to want him over JJ.

Check the post Mr Spectacular, find anywhere did I mention "trade". On offense, James Johnson is far from polished (less is more). He makes his real contribution on the defensive end. Its not hard to understand, there is a lack of talent for this team to compete or contend.

Really? You don't think my proposal of trading him into a TPE or cap space makes more sense, bringing back a late first rounder if possible? The you retain the ability to amnesty another player down the line.

Oh, and there's the small issue of only being able to amnesty people in the off-season. So, it is completely impossible for the Raptors to amnesty Barbosa - meaning that idea does not make much sense at all.

Why waste amnesty on two months salary? It doesn't really help to be honest. I could see Kleiza or Amir who are owed money long term.

To the people who are saying you don't think Chandler is worth it because you have James Johnson, you're crazy. James Johnson will never have as polished offensive game as Chandler, and when a guy actually wants to come to Toronto, you're just gonna say no?

This is a joke. he would definitely flourish here. He's only 24 turning 25.

Since when is Wilson Chander considered an offensive talent? He can score, of course, and is probably better at it at this point than JJ, but seriously, we are going to pin our offensive hopes on Chandler?

Bargnani is a scorer. JV could bring you at least 10 PPG off of put-backs and pick-and-rolls even in his first year. Calderon will score (or his replacement that's supposed to be better). I'd rather further develop DD or look to replace him with a better shooting guard, considering that JJ is a better defender than Chandler and is capable of playing PF as well.

You are definitely downplaying him. He can go off on any given night, and will get the Raps 18 points a game or so. His defense is on par with JJs and can also play pf.
