He's not THAT good. I see Batum more in the mold of what Josh Howard used to be when he wasn't as big of a moron in his prime years in DAL. 15-17 ppg, great defence, rebounding, and does the little things and can guard 1-4.

I've been saying it since he got drafted, Batum is going to be a stud.

It's going to be interesting to see how his contract situation will play out. I would throw 10 million at that guy no problem.

Josh Howard never had anything near his length, athleticism or 3 point shooting. Batum has a 7+ wingspan, that's how he gets all those blocks.

If he can actually learn how to create his offence on a consistent basis, I don't see why he can't average 20 points.

how many people can successfully learn to do that?

I agree though, he's showing flashes as a starter.

Howard was a great midrange shooter, so Batum has the 3 pt shot but didnt have anywhere near the shotmaking ability that Howard used to have. They used to isolate the guy in big games many times throughout the game, and he was essentially DALs second option.

I dont think Batum will ever be the isolation type of player that Howard was or in general. He gets most of his pts off drive and kicks to him, or him coming off of screens. I dont remember many instances of him ever taking his man off the dribble

I don't think we can get him this season.
Quote:
Right now they can’t do a sign-and-trade (under the rules of the CBA) and they can only offer him a contract starting at $4.3 million U.S. (what they have left under the salary cap). That won’t get it done, meaning they’ll have to make a trade that opens up some more cap space (trading out a bigger salary for a player or players making $2 million or so less or moving someone like Leandro Barbosa for a trade exception).

The team spent the new mid-level exception for room teams ($2.5 million) on Aaron Gray, allowing them to keep their remaining cap space.

the article has been edited. I'll fix the post.

No doubt, Josh Howard had a nice midrange game.

I've watched both of them play rather extensively to be honest, I just see something in Batum's game thats special. He's got great IQ for a player his age and you can tell he takes practice and improvement seriously.

Will he ever be a Jason Terry type of shooter? Nah. What he can become though is a do it all player who can guard the other teams best player, knock down threes, put up 20 points and provide crucial defensive statistics as well.

It's just very rare to find a do it all player like that (let alone one with Batum's measurables).

Call me crazy (I probably am), but I liken him to a poor man's Pippen. I see him improving his ball handling significantly in the future.

Story on Wilson Chandler "exploring all avenues" in Toronto. March 1 deadline looms if he's going anywhere but Denver
If they discuss a long term deal (wink wink) after the season ends, maybe he signs for 2.5Mil for the remainder of the season knowing he's got a long term contract coming with the money he wants.

I've edited the post (after the dude edited his article). We actually have about 4.3M in cap space to offer right now.
Trade Barbosa for that TPE and gitrdone.

edit: has this become a Nic Batum thread?
